Women beat LBSU, move on to Sunday

Oregon State opened the NCAA tournament with a one point win over Long Beach State.

CORVALLIS – The No. 2 seed Oregon State women's basketball team advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament with a 56-55 win over 15-seed Long Beach State Friday afternoon at Gill Coliseum.
"Credit to Long Beach State, they played a great game today," said Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck. "They were well coached and they played like they had nothing to lose. This was a great game, and a good win for us. I think this game showed that we're gritty and tough. All year this team has found a way to win games, and that's what they did today."
The game was played in front of nearly 5,000 fans, most of them supporting the Beavers.
Oregon State held Long Beach State to 33.9 percent shooting in the contest, and dominated the glass, holding a 44-29 advantage in rebounds.
Redshirt-junior Breanna Brown led the Beavers, scoring eight of her 12 points in the fourth quarter. She finished with seven rebounds and three blocks. Junior Marie Gulich tallied 10 points, seven rebounds and three blocks in just 23 minutes of playing time.
Freshman Mikayla Pivec scored 10 points on 5-for-8 shooting, and tallied all seven of her rebounds on the defensive end. Senior Gabriella Hanson also matched a team-high with seven boards.
