Spring Recruiting Primer: Cornerbacks

The Beavers are always looking for long athletic corners to take away the deep ball from opponents. Who are the early targets?

Spring evaluation period begins on April 15 and runs through May.  This is a chance for the coaches to hit the road and watch prospects perform on the field, both with their high school teammates and at camps and combines held throughout the country.  With the Beavers own spring practice in the books, the staff is able to be completely organized when they hit the road.

Over the remainder of this week, we will be listing the players with early offers and those to watch who could see their Oregon State interest increase.

The Beavers did well recruiting corners in 2017, and already have one commit in Deshon Wilson.  They will be looking to take one more in 2018, but it will have to be the right fit.

Okonkwo Williams Crawford Wallace Dunn
Irvine Gardner
Wilson Hayes

BeaverBlitz Notes: Deshon was the first commitment to the 2018 class when he committed prior to attending the Beavers Junior Day last month. He is a member of Team TMP and is hoping to help add more of his teammates to the mix.

Offers: Fresno, Hawaii, Indiana, Nevada, Oregon State, San Jose St, UCLA, Wyoming

BeaverBlitz Notes: Oregon State is definitely in the mix for the three-star corner out of Sacramento. Corner coach Cory Hall has been leading his recruitment along with area recruiter Dave Baldwin. Definitely a player to keep on a short list.  UCLA is also in the mix and Oregon could be close to offering as well.

Offers: Auburn, Cincinnati, Clemson, Indiana, Iowa St, Kentucky, Miami, Michigan, Ole Miss, Miss St, Oregon State, Pitt, South Carolina, UCF

BeaverBlitz Notes: Garner has kept his thoughts pretty quiet as far as his recruitment is concerned.  He has some big time offers that are closer to his Florida home, making the Beavers a most likely long shot.

Offers: Auburn, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Maryland, North Carolina, Oregon State, Rutgers, South Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia

BeaverBlitz Notes: Gipson has seen his recruitment take off and while the Georgia native doesn't have plans to visit Oregon State this spring, he is building a strong relationship with area recruiter and position coach Cory Hall.  Look for Gipson to take an official visit to Corvallis.

Offers: Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Miss. St, Oregon State, San Diego St, Southern Miss

BeaverBlitz Notes: Three-star Smith has spent his early spring checking in on programs closer to home.  LSU received a visit, although the Tigers have yet to offer.  He has also been by Mississippi State.  Oregon State is an intriguing offer and he is definitely interested in learning more about the Beavs.
