May War Room: Running Backs

Running back is always an important position for Oregon State recruiting. Here is a look at some prospects that have caught our eye in this month's War Room.

The Beavers are being picky in recruiting running backs for the 2018 class.  Of the ten players with known offers, nine were ranked in the top 100 running backs and five ranked in the Scout 300 (a listing of the top 300 players regardless of position).  Ideally the Beavers should sign two running backs in this class

CURRENT RUNNING BACKS:

SENIOR JUNIOR SOPHOMORE RS FRESH. FRESHMAN
Bailey Nall Pierce Baylor
Johnson Calvin

CURRENT OFFERS:

http://www.scout.com/player/210152-chris-brown?s=182

Offers: Arizona, Boise St, Boston College, Cal, Hawaii, Oregon State, UCLA, Utah, Washington State

BeaverBlitz Notes: Brown visited OSU during Junior Day and liked what he saw in Corvallis.  He is in no hurry to make a decision and is looking beyond football in the school that will ultimately gain his signature.  He's been in contact with several Oregon State coaches and spent time with running back coach Telly Lockette while in Corvallis. The top rated running back in California this cycle, Brown rushed for 1,442 yards on 221 carries with 15 touchdowns as a junior at El Camino.  He also caught eight passes for 83 yards.

Offers: Arizona, Cincinnati, Colorado State, East Carolina, FAU, Iowa State, Louisville, Missouri, Oregon State, South Florida, UCF

BeaverBlitz Notes: Offers have continued to roll in for 3-star Jerome Ford. Florida running backs have been good for the Beavers and with position coach Telly Lockette's connections to the Sunshine State, the trend should continue. Ford has been drawing attention from across the country.  The Beavers could help the case tremendously by getting him out for a visit this fall.

http://www.scout.com/player/199795-andrew-cunningham?s=182

Offers: ASU, Boston College, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Maryland, Missouri, NC State, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, Oregon, Purdue, Rutgers, South Carolina, Utah, West Virginia

BeaverBlitz Notes: Another Florida back to keep an eye on is Tampa native Cunningham who has an extensive offer list.  Considered a longshot for Oregon State.

http://www.scout.com/player/204984-ta-zhawn-henry?s=182

Offers: Baylor, Colorado, Houston, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, Utah,

BeaverBlitz Notes: Offers have continued to roll in for Henry, who just released a top 12, that included the programs that had offered plus local schools such as Texas, Texas A & M, Clemson, Washington and Illinois. Houston (Tex) Lamar is loaded this year and the Beavers are on notice.  Henry was excited to receive an offer from Oregon State, but told BeaverBlitz that he would need to make a visit to check things out.  The Beavers landed two running backs from Texas in 2017, could Henry be the next? He is definitely on the BeaverBlitz board.

PROSPECTS TO WATCH:

http://www.scout.com/player/215208-ja-veon-marlow?s=182

Offers: Duke, Kentucky, Nebraska, North Carolina, Pitt, UCF, Vandy

BeaverBlitz Notes: Marlow plays at Winter Haven High, not too far from where current Beaver Artavis Pierce played in Auburndale, Florida.  While the Beavers have not offered the 5-foot-10, 200 pound runner, Coach Lockette is watching him closely.

http://www.scout.com/player/208000-micah-smith?s=182

Offers: Hawaii, Montana State

BeaverBlitz Notes: Was a definite talent last season running behind five-star offensive lineman Foster Sarell. Right now seeing most attention from Mountain West programs, but strong performances on the 7-on-7 circuit will help him as well.
