With Treston Decoud moving on to play for the Houston Texans on Sundays, the Beavers are looking for their next big-bodied cornerback. Enter Dominique Hampton, who at 6’2” and 180 pounds, is nearly the size that Decoud was when he was drafted earlier this month.
The 3-star from Arizona’s Centennial High School picked up his 5th offer earlier this month from the Beavers as Coach McGiven stopped by to see him in person.
“Coach McGiven came down to see one of my spring practices and size me up. He thought I would fit into what the defensive coordinator and DB's coach want. He talked with them back up in Oregon and they ended up offering me as a cornerback,” Hampton told BeaverBlitz.
The offer is one that Dominique is considering, along with his other Pac-12 offers and Notre Dame, who is showing strong interest.
“I’m happy to have the offer from them (Oregon State) as they’re a school that I’m actually familiar with. It’s always exciting to get an offer from a big time Pac-12 school. I’m going to take some official visits and let the recruiting process play out. Oregon State is a school that I’m thinking I will take a visit to.”
As for the more immediate future, Hampton is shifting his focus from his track season to preparing for the football season. Unofficial visits and camps are definitely on the docket although where he plans on visiting is still up in there. He’s hoping to get those figured out with his family soon.
BeaverBlitz will check back in with the cornerback this summer as his travel plans become more definitive.
