Beavs down Commodores 8-4 in Game 1

Oregon State is one game away from clinching their first trip to the College World Series since 2013. With 8-4 victory over the Vanderbilt Commodores the Beavers are in the drivers seat moving forward into this series

Junior right hander Jake Thompson pitched a great game going 7.2 IP with 7 H 4 R and 7 Ks and he ties an OSU record with 14 wins on the season advancing to 14-0. If a misplayed ball in left field early in the game would’ve been caught he would’ve gotten away with giving up only one run in the game as well.

Harrison hit his 7th home run of the season in the bottom of the first to put the Beavers on top and they never looked back leading the entire way through the game. Outstanding defense by Michael Gretler at third and Steven Kwan in center-field helped the bullpen along the way, and the Beavers finished off the game in the top of the 9th with Sam Tweedt getting the final three outs.

The Beavers will again face the Commodores tomorrow. Vanderbilt will throw potential #1 overall draft pick Kyle Wright and the Beavers will have to decide their starter, but Casey hinted at it being either Rasmussen or Fehmel. That game is set for a 6 pm first pitch in Goss Stadium.
