Beavs are Omaha Bound!

The Beavers punched their ticket to Omaha and the College World Series on Saturday night with a 9-2 win over Vanderbilt.

For the first time since 2013 Oregon State is Omaha Bound as the Beavers downed the Commodores 9-2 to advance to the College World Series.

The Beavers got off to a slow start with the first six in the order going down subsequently to projected #1 overall pick Kyle Wright; but after Adley Rutschman delivered the first OSU hit of the game in the third, the Beaver offense got hot fast exploding for five hits and four runs in the third, capped off by a three run home run off the bat of KJ Harrison.

They chased Wright from the mound in the 7th where OSU plated three more runs, all with two outs as well. That brings the touted prospect’s record to 5-6 on the year and his ERA to 3.40. And the Oregon State offense continued to pour it on late into the game, with two more RBIs coming off a Grenier slash-turned-triple over the center fielder's head in the top of the eighth.

After being the Saturday starter for the first 11 series of the season for Oregon State, Bryce Fehmel was replaced after a few bad appearances in a row combined with the return of Rasmussen. Fehmel was the starter for the Beavers in the clinching game over the Super Regionals after only throwing one inning since May 6th, and he delivered an outstanding outing leaning on his breaking ball and off-speed pitches to fan nine Commodores in his complete game victory scattering five hits and two runs throughout. Absolutely nobody in the stadium or at home expected that, but it just goes to show Bryce’s composure coming back into the starting role.

“It was an absolute warrior mentality to go for so long tonight and do so well,” Casey said. “I think he had everything working tonight.

It’s hard to say Oregon State has been overlooked in the playoffs when they are the #1 overall seed and have the best winning percentage in the history of the NCAA, but many thought that their pitching wouldn’t be as great against “real” competition from the SEC and that defense wouldn’t be able to carry them. The Beavers responded by playing some of the best defense i’ve seen all year, and hitting the ball as hard as i’ve ever seen this team hit.

In the second inning of the game Donahue made an outstanding catch holding onto the ball bouncing off the wall in left for one of the better catches all year, and the entire depth of the outfield defensively is really something to marvel at. They pretty much have 5 guys that can play out there any given day and all have outstanding fielding percentages.

“We have an outstanding group of guys that we can run out there that all play amazing defense,” said Pat Casey

And on offense the Beavers have been criticized for not hitting close to as many home runs as their competition, but having their pitching carry them through the games. KJ Harrison decided to change the narrative going for a three-run home run in both games of the series and powering the Beavers to victory.

The Beavers will play the winners of Long Beach State and Cal-State Fullerton in the opening game of the College World Series next weekend in Omaha.
