Twelve on down

What a performance by those young men! What a display of skill, poise, and class in a pressure situation. But enough about the Florida Marlins, let's talk OSU Beaver football.

Saturday's game, we countdown from 12 and overuse the ellipsis.

12 Turnovers – Saturday’s game reminded me of dinner out with my father-in-law.
“I’ll get the check.” “You are too kind, but I’ll get it.” “Shame on you, I insist, it’s my pleasure.” “Oh no, I can’t let you do that.” It can get silly, but I can’t remember going through twelve iterations. “Here I’ll give you the ball.” “You are too kind, let me give it back.” “On no…”

11 Men on the field when WSU/OSU played defense – Believe it or not there were only 11 WSU/OSU defenders on the field during any one play. It only seemed like there were more than 11. The defenses for both teams won their respective battles with their opponents. Unfortunately for the Beavers, there are those other two units…

Derek Anderson had a tough game against the Cougars getting sacked nine times.

10 Thousand e-mails that I’ll get after some people read #9 – Hey, I don’t like it better than anybody else but…

9 Penalties – The Beavers haven’t been able to get Steven Jackson 100 yards the past two games but they have had no problem breaking the 100-yard barrier when it comes to penalties. NOTE TO BEAVER FANS: Don’t complain about bad calls by the officials. The term, “You made your bed, now you have to lie in it” comes to mind. Any chance the Beavers had of getting good referee mojo was thrown away by the antics of the co-captains at the start of the Washington game. I can’t wait to see what new and creative antic the Beavers come up with to piss the officials off before next week’s game. Some people say there is some kind of penalty committed on every play…

8 Catches by Scott Lunde – That slant play seemed to work every time. I wonder why WSU bothered to call any other kind of pass play. Mike Riley’s probably thinking, “If Dennis had offered Scott that scholarship…”

7 WSU turnovers – I cannot remember a team turning the ball over seven times and winning a football game. I can remember rolling a few sevens at Spirit Mountain…

6 In the Nation – I’m not sure winning a game against the Beavers will get WSU a higher ranking. However if they award points for winning ugly…

5 Mitch Meeuwsen – Mitch brought back memories of his past two years. It seemed like he was everywhere. He catches the ball as good or better than most of the guys that he guards. You know, the Beavs have needed some production out of the slot position…

4 Field Goals by Kirk Yliniemi – Kirk looked terrific. The thought of Kirk lining up for his fifth attempt after Mitch’s fourth interception…

Mitch Meeuwsen had three interceptions against WSU.

3 Different Snappers– Darrick Bruns, Trent Bray, Josh Linehan all took a turn long-snapping, and that was in the second half alone! Any Beaver player who did any long-snapping at the high school level might want to practice up this week. I wonder, if you long-snapped at Pop Warner…

2 Home Games coming up the Beavs Should win – The Beavers play Arizona next week, and Stanford two weeks later. This is the time for the Beavers to right the ship, straighten things out, fix what’s broken, calibrate the instruments, tune the engine…

1 Week for the Beavs to Get Their Act Together – The Arizona game used to look like a shoe-in…
