  • Quick, athletic guards - The combination of Stoudamire, Shakur, and Adams will keep the ball moving.  They can all dribble, shoot, and pass...first in the Pac-10 in assists with 19.6 a game.

  • Offensive fire power - First in the conference in scoring offense (87.2 ppg), second in scoring margin (+9.6), second in three point field goal percentages (.375), second in three point field goals made (7.8 3fgmg) and third in field goal percentages (.468).
Channing Frye provides Arizona points on the offensive end and blocks on the defensive end.
  • Solid in the center - Frye has developed into one of the premier centers in college basketball.  His presence in the middle keeps opponents out of the paint, while his size gives the 'Cats an advantage on the offensive side of the court as a team they are first in blocked shots (5.71 bpg), first in defensive rebounds (26.8), and first in offensive rebounds (14.8).

  • Coaching - Lute Olson picked up his 500th career Arizona win and the 700th win of his career this year.  There is no doubt he is one of the best coaches in the game.

  • Not enough minutes - With the immense amount of talent on the roster it will be hard to get everyone minutes on the team.

  • Leadership - With only two seniors on the roster, neither who start, and just two returning starters Arizona lacks the experience and leadership from veteran players that would help them in close games.

Last Time the Wildcats Played Oregon State...

in Corvallis...
If the Arizona Wildcats had any concern about a letdown after their hard-fought victory over Oregon, their win over Oregon State showed they didn't have to worry. Freshman guard Hassan Adams scored 14 points to lead No. 4 Arizona to a 80-65 victory over the Beavers on Saturday night. Recap

in Tucson...
Channing Frye scored 24 points, one shy of his career high, and grabbed 12 rebounds as the No. 1-ranked Wildcats beat Oregon State 72-60.  The Beavers (13-13, 6-11 Pac-10), in their first year under former Arizona assistant Jay John, lost at McKale Center for the 20th year in a row, but they stayed with the Wildcats throughout. Recap

News from the Latest Wildcat Game

Arizona coach Lute Olson will remember his 510th victory for the way the seventh-ranked Wildcats played rather than the milestone it represented.  Channing Frye tied his career high with 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to help Arizona easily hand UCLA its first Pac-10 loss with a 97-72 victory Saturday...Arizona Overpowers UCLA

News and Notes

  • The Wildcats have won 20 straight games versus the Beavers at the McKale Center.

  • Arizona is 7-1 when leading at halftime and have a 164-9 record when scoring over 90 points in the Olson era.

  • The 'Cats have won eight of the last nine meetings between the teams.

  • Lute Olson is 7-1 versus his former assistant coaches, including 2-0 against Jay John.

  • Since Lute Olson took over in 1983, the Wildcats have missed postseason play just once during his 20 year tenure. Twenty-four of his last 25 teams have advanced to NCAA play.

  • Arizona won the national championship in 1997 after finishing fifth in the Pac-10.

  • The Wildcats have been to the Final Four four times under Lute Olson. (1988, 1994, 1997, 2001)

  • The last time the Wildcats won less than 20 games was the 1986-87 season when they went 18-12. The Cats have had 16 consecutive 20 win seasons.

  • The Beavers have not won at Arizona in 18 years, 22-5 overall. Lute Olson is 35-6 against the Beavers all-time.

Norz's Humble Prediction

Well Beaver fans, even if the Beavers had a three-game conference winning streak going into Tucson I would still give the 'Cats the edge.  Arizona is looking to get back to their usual winning ways after losing two of their last three games and will want to make a statement that they deserve to be in the top 10 despite their current record.  Arizona in a blowout after a competitive first half.
