Notes from the recruiting dinner

Mark Banker and Paul Chryst commented on the recruits as their game film flashed across the screens in the banquet room. Read their comments and other notes from the Feb 4 dinnner inside.

Mark Banker's comments on the defensive recruits:

  • Booth --> nothing new, everything that was said is in his bio
  • Bates --> nasty hitter, agile, great space player, will redshirt
  • Christopher --> explodes to the ball
  • Cook --> agile, quick
  • Darlin --> has the ability to take the place of Seilger, has great tenacity, nasty hitter, solid tackler
  • Ellison --> will come in spring, was just waiting in the JC ranks so Camp could bring him back to D1 ball (Camp coached him at San Diego State before coming to OSU)
  • Price --> will give him a chance at linebacker, but want him at defensive end, want him to eat lots and left weights
  • Herron --> explosive, fierce hitter (reminded me of Tim Alexander)
  • Lewis --> very excited about him, a confident player, a lockdown corner, has long arms to keep the WR under control
  • Payton --> good speed, lockdown corner, NFL caliber
  • Johns --> very fast, coaches are fighting for him for defense and offense, when he is on the field he will make plays
  • Paulescu --> call him Sam "the punter", two steps and gets the ball away, can angle/place his kicks where he wants

Paul Chryst's comments on the offensive recruits:
  • Levitre --> athletic, lots of skills to develop
  • Ioane --> has a streak of nasty
  • Miller --> in the Army for a couple of years, mature body, great feet, and tough
  • Speer --> love him, a very competitive player, smart, a center and long snapper prospect.
  • Thompson --> staff is really excited about him, very athletic, good feet
  • Jones --> physical, though between the tackles
  • Fuller --> fast, good lateral movement
  • Johnson --> dynamic player, very talented, will first start on offense, then try him on defense, very fast
  • S. Brown --> a lot of forming here, a live arm, and lots of ability, will help the team wherever he plays, can throw on the run
  • Hildebrand --> confident in the pocket, mobile, good arm
  • Swanigan --> good production, a leaper
  • Stroughter --> real good athlete, playmaker
