Notes from the Corvallis Civil War

  • Both teams shot over 50% in the second half. (OSU - 56.3%, UO - 55.6%)

  • Both teams struggled from the line. (OSU - 62.9%, UO - 71.9%)

  • Chris Stephens shot 12 three pointers, but connected on just three of those attempts.

  • Lamar Hurd just missed a triple double scoring 13 points, grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out 10 assists.

  • J.S. Nash had seven turnovers in 35 minutes but scored 17 points, grabbed six rebounds, and dished out six assists.

  • David Lucas paced the Beavers with 24 points on 9 of 13 shooting while also adding seven rebounds with four of them on the coming on the offensive end of the court.

  • Oregon State almost doubled the Oregon's total number of assists, 19 to 10.

G 1 James Davis (5-10, 175) - superb three-point shooter...has almost unlimited range...consistent from downtown...is the Pac-10's active career leader in three pointers with 206...has made a team leading 50 three point baskets this year...has played in 16 games, started two this season...in 26.5 mpg is averaging 12.9 points and 2.4 assists per game...shooting .531 from the field (10th in the conference), .485 (50 of 103, second in the conference in percentage, first in made three point shots) from three point range, and .889 from the charity stripe...shot 6 of 9 from the field including 5 of 8 from three point range in route to 17 points in 29 minutes, also added three rebounds at OSU...in Pac-10 play, he's hitting 53.3 percent (32-60) from three point range.

F 11 Ian Crosswhite (6-11, 245) - runs the floor decently...smooth shooter and is not afraid to shoot the three...has impressive inside moves...good hands for a big man...started 15 of 16 games this year...commits the most fouls on the team per game...in 26.9 minutes is averaging 16.6 points (12th in the conference), and 5.9 rebounds (12th in the conference)...shooting a team best .548 from the field (fifth in the conference), .235 from three point range, and .786 from the line...hit all four of his shots from the field and added four points from the free throw line for a total of 12 points and four rebounds in 27 minutes, also added one assists, one block, and three turnovers at Gill Coliseum...has scored 10 or more points in 14 of 16 games this season.

C 3 Mitch Platt (6-10, 270) - runs the floor well...good passer...invited to try out for the USA Basketball Junior World Championships team...has started every game since the Civil War in Corvallis...started 10 games, played in 12...averaging 5.7 points, 5.7 rebounds in 20.5 minutes...shooting .527 from the field and a team worst .323 from the free throw line...played just 11 minutes, grabbing three rebounds and committing three turnovers.

F 33 Luke Jackson (6-7, 215) - pure shooter who can score from the outside...fearless player who does not mind mixing it up in the paint...has the skills to play on the box and loves to rebound...gives 100% every play, very aggressive on both ends of the floor...All-American and Wooden award candidate...has a chance to become the only player in school history to rank in the UO's top 10 in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals...excellent free throw shooter...has started all 16 games this season...has scored in double digits every game this season extending his streak to 17...leads the team in minutes played per game (34.5), points (22.1, second in the Pac-10), assists (4.9, fourth in the conference) and steals (1.3)...also grabs a team leading 7.0 rebounds (seventh in the conference) a game...shooting .509 from the field, .455 from downtown (third on the conference), and .871 (third in the conference) from the free throw line...set career highs in points and rebounds with 36 and 16 respectively...hit all 14 shots from the line, also added five assists and four steal with just two turnovers.


The Bench

PG 14 Brandon Lincoln (6-4, 200) - his first collegiate start was against OSU in Corvallis...played at Portland's Jefferson High...unselfish team player...good court vision...has played in all 16 games, started five, this year...averaging 4.4 points and 1.3 assists in 17.2 minutes per game...shooting .411 from the field, .333 from downtown and .542 from the free throw line...had two assists and six points in 27 minutes at OSU.

G 14 Jordan Kent (6-5, 200) - athletic, strong player...son of Ernie Kent...also runs track...has played in 15 games...in 10.6 minutes averaging 2.1 points and 1.5 rebounds...shooting .323 from the field, .222 from three point range, and .409 from the free throw line...shot 1 of 6 from the field in 19 minutes also grabbed three rebounds on Ralph Miller Court.

C 55 Jay Anderson (6-9, 220) - can shoot from the outside and has a soft touch in the paint...is showing more confidence as the season progresses...started 6, played in all 16 contests this year...played in all 33 games last season...averaging 18.5 minutes, 3.6 points and 2.6 rebounds...shooting .442 from the field, .444 from downtown, and .750 from the line...played just 12 minutes and grabbed one rebound in Corvallis.

C 5 Matt Short (7-0, 235) - athletic big man who gives 100 percent while on the court...good work ethic...has played in six games this season, started one...in 9.5 minutes is averaging 1.0 point and 2.3 rebounds...shooting .429 from the field, and has not attempted a free throw this year...played just two minutes at Oregon State.

F 42 Adam Zahn (6-8, 225) - physical player who also runs the floor well...has a nose for the ball...good leaper with a decent outside touch...has played in 12 games this season...in 5.8 minutes shooting .222 from the field and .750 from the line...averaging .9 points and 1.6 rebounds...did not play at Gill this season.

  • The long ball - Shooting a conference best .433 from downtown (second in the nation) while hitting 91 of 210 attempts, on average hit 10.11 three point shots again, good for third in the nation.

  • Offensive firepower - Oregon is third the Pac-10 in scoring offense with 78.4 ppg, third in scoring margin with a +6.1 mark, first in field goal percentage (.491), and first in three point field goal percentage (.424).

  • Sharing the rock - Second in the conference with 17.19 apg...have 165 assists on 248 baskets for an assist rate of 67 percent.



  • The big fellas - Although they have size and finesse, Oregon lacks consistent tough play in the paint as they are ninth in the conference in blocked shots (2.12 bpg), ninth in rebounding offense (33.6) and last offensive rebounds (9.44 orpg).
  • Replacing Ridnour - The Ducks will have to be patient as Aaron Brooks and Brandon Lincoln learn running the UO offense.

News from the Latest Duck Game

Chris Hernandez scored all of his 22 points in the second half and led No. 2 Stanford back from a 19-point deficit to beat Oregon 83-80 Saturday.  Stanford (18-0, 9-0 Pac-10) remains one of just two undefeated Division I teams in the nation. The other, No. 3 St. Joseph's, beat Temple 83-71 earlier Saturday.

It was Oregon's first loss at McArthur Court this season and third home loss in 39 games...Ducks give unbeaten Stanford a scare



News and Notes

  • The Oregon/Oregon State basketball series is the most contested series in NCAA history. The 319 games in the series is almost 50 more than the next closest, 272 for Oregon State/Washington.
  • Oregon is 36-3 at McArthur Court the past three seasons.  They have won 10 straight against the Beavers in Eugene.
  • Oregon has hit 10 or more threes in seven of 16 games this season.
  • The Ducks are third nationally and first in the Pac-10 in three-point shooting percentage, hitting 42.4 percent. Southern Utah is the current national leader at 43.0 percent.
  • Luke Jackson is one of only six players in the country leading his team in scoring (22.1), rebounding (7.0) and assists (4.9) per game.  He has also led Oregon in both scoring and assists in each of the
    last eight games.

  • Luke Jackson is one of three players in Pac-10 history to record multiple career triple-doubles, joining California's Loren Woods.
