James Greule's Top 10 Oregon State football recruits for 2005, in no particular order. Updated on May 21, 2004.

1.  Josh Portis, QB | William Taft (Woodland Hills, CA)

Earned second-team All-West Valley honors as a junior...threw for 1,881 yards and 21 touchdowns while also rushing for 245 yards and three touchdowns on 45 carries...has one official offer from Utah and two verbal offers from Arizona State and Colorado...favors ASU...also likes Oklahoma, Michigan, LSU, Colorado and Oregon...carries a 3.1 core GPA...will attend the Stanford Nike Camp in the spring.

Cousin of current Beaver Whitfield Usher...very quick...caught 21 passes for 595 yards and eight touchdowns...named first team all-city for his efforts....looking for early playing time...almost qualified...will look around, but keep a close eye on Corvallis...Beavers have a good shot at landing Usher due to the family connection...also very interested in UCLA, Oklahoma, USC, and Florida State...has offers from Washington State, Arizona State, Oregon and Arizona...will attend the Nike San Diego Camp.

Recorded 60 tackles and 14 sacks as a junior...has offers from Florida, State, USC, Oregon State, UCLA, Arizona, Nebraska, and Duke...will attend the Florida State and Oregon State summer camps...strong and athletic...quick, in the mold of DeLawrence Grant and LaDarius Jackson...does not have a favorite.

Ran for 1,955 yards and 25 touchdowns on 230 carries...earned all-league honors...named to the 2003 Seattle Times 'Star Times' Offensive squad...named a Nugget in Waiting by the Tacoma News Tribune...has offers from Oregon, Arizona State, and Washington State...wants to take his time with his decision...planning on visiting Arizona State and Oklahoma in the summer...considered one of the top running back prospects on the West Coast...son of former NFL star James Hasty.

5.  Daniel Borg, OL | Ironwood Ridge (Tucson, AZ)

Has a written offer from Nebraska...also has offers from Washington, Arizona, and Vanderbilt...also likes Oregon State and Stanford...no leader yet...was second team all-state, first team all-Southern Arizona, first team all-region offensive tackle, and second team all-region defensive tackle as a junior...will attend team camps at Arizona, Washington, Oregon State and Nebraska...has family that live in Oregon...holds a 4.0 and scored an 1180 on the SAT...will commit if the town and situation feels right.

Quote:  "I'm a dominant pass blocker and I get on LBs good. I finish my blocks and get down field fast. I'm really aggressive. I'd like to have better core strength and stronger legs and make better blocks. I need to stay lower."

Had 64 tackles, seven interceptions, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery on defense...grabbed 22 receptions for 400 yards and six touchdowns on offense...first team all-league and all-valley selection at free safety...has a written offer from Arizona State...verbals from Oregon, San Diego State, Washington, and Oregon State...one of only 12 juniors selected to attend the Cal-Florida Bowl practices last year...also runs track...favors USC and UCLA.

7.  Will Mannschrek, LB | Lewiston Senior (Lewiston, ID)

All-league at linebacker and second-team at tight end...receiving interest from Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford, Nebraska, Michigan, BYU, Colorado, and Washington State...is working out with a personal trainer during the summer...good student with a 3.87 GPA...in the Trent Bray mold.

Threw for 1,991 yards as a junior...Narrows League Bridge Division Offensive MVP as well as first-team Narrows League Bridge Division...2003 Tacoma News Tribune 'Nugget in Waiting'...receiving interest from Arizona State, Arizona, Boise State, California, Washington State, Washington, and Oregon...WSU is recruiting him heavily...his high school coach compares his style of play to Jason Gesser.

9.  Syd'Quan Thompson DB/ATH | Grant Union (Sacramento, CA)

Named first team all-league, metro, and state under-class...had 950 yards rushing with 18 touchdowns and caught 15 passes for 360 yards and four touchdowns...on defense, had 79 tackles and five interceptions...also returned five punts and one kickoff for touchdowns......a playmaker...is hearing from Florida, UCLA, Colorado, Arizona, Washington, UNLV< and LSU...wants to stay on the West Coast...Bruins and Wildcats have offered...Arizona is recruiting him the hardest.

Older brother plays for BYU...considered the top recruit in Hawaii...interested in Hawaii, BYU, Utah, Colorado, and Oregon State...wants to stay close to home...caught 29 receptions for 1,020 yards and eight touchdowns...teammate of 2004 Beaver recruits Jeremy Perry, Walker Vave, and Tevita Finau.
