Jones, Sieverson to play in Les Schwab Bowl

Oregon State football fans who are tired of AFL games and replays on ESPN Classic will have the opportunity to see a glimpse of the future Saturday in the annual Les Schwab Bowl.

The annual Oregon 4A high school all-star game features some of the best high school players from around Oregon. Eighteen of the 72 players on the north and south squads have signed letters-of-intent with Division I-A or Division I-AA college programs.

The 57 year old event will feature five players who plan on attending and playing football for OSU. Two of the five players have a scholarship; running back Mike Jones has a full ride while running back Matt Sieverson has a partial scholarship. The other three players will walk on.

The North squad will be under the tutelage of Tigard head coach Frank Geske who led his team to the state title in 2003. Defensive back Brett Allee (6-1, 205), offensive/defensive lineman Steffan Bergstrom (6-4, 200), and running back Mike Jones (6-0, 210) all plan on attending OSU and will be playing for the North side.

Allee was a second team all-state selection as a defensive back and running back for Canby High in 2003. He was also a first team all Pac-9 selection on both sides of the ball in addition to being named co-offensive player of the league.

Bergstrom earned honorable mention all-Tri Rivers League honors in 2003 and was a three-year varsity player for Clackamas High. Jones garnered first team all-Metro honors and second team all-state honors in 2003 for Jesuit High.

Suiting up for the south is defensive back Carl Zehner (5-9, 185) and running back Matt Sieverson (6-3, 190) who both plan on wearing orange and black during their collegiate football career. North Medford head coach John Beck will lead the South team.

Zehner grabbed first team all-MWL and honorable mention all-state honors as a defensive back for Willamette High in 2003. Sieverson was Oregon's offensive player of the year and selected as a Red Zone National Football player.

General admission tickets are $7 and are available at all Ticketmaster locations in addition to the PGE Park Box office on 20th and Morrison.

Kick off is on Saturday, June 26 at 7 p.m. in PGE Park.
