Kick and Punt Return
Wide receiver Anthony Carter and fullback Ladrick Brody handle kickoff duties. Carter has big play ability while Brody is tough to bring down if he catches steam. Carter has returned three kicks for a 13.7 average. Brody has returned one kick for a 14 yard pickup. Star running back DonTrell Moore handles the punt returns and we already know what he can do. He has returned four punts for 15 yards.

Zunker hit a field goal as time expired to help defeat Texas Tech last weekend.

Senior Wes Zunker proved his worth against Texas Tech last weekend nailing a 43-yard kick to win the game as time expired. He is 3 of 5 on the year with both misses being from 30 plus yards out. Zunker earned all-conference honors last year.

Junior Tyler Gaus (6-2, 205) is an experienced punter with two years under his belt and his experience is showing as he has booted nine kicks for a 48-yard average. His average is a conference best and good for fourth in the nation. Four of his kicks have been inside the 20-yard line, while one has been blocked.

Notes on the special teams:

  • The Lobos have blocked 13 punts since the start of the 2000 season. Four of the blocks have been returned for scores. One of those punts was against Oregon State in 2000 – UNM recovered the ball for a touchdown.
