Like Sister, Like Brother?

LB Kevin Ellison is the younger brother of current OSU linebacker Keith Ellison. Will the family connection be enough for Kevin to commit to Oregon State?

Redondo Beach (Ca) LB Kevin Ellison (6-1, 215, 4.7) predicts there is a 35% chance he'll choose Cal, (safety), if they offer, over Oregon St (LB/visited, offer), Utah (safety, offer), Arizona (safety, offer) and USC (visited, no offer). Other offers include Oregon and Washington.

"Cal seems real interested in me and I've been able to send out my senior highlight tape to them. They said someone will call tonight or tomorrow about a possible trip and an offer," says Ellison, from Redondo Union. "They have a winning program and a good coach in (Jeff) Tedford. The academics there are great and I'm really familiar with the area--I enjoyed myself a lot when I used to go there and visit my sister. She went to school there.

"I like how they run a 4-3 scheme for their defense and how the safety plays in the box a lot. One of their DBs right now is (Donnie) McCleskey and he makes a lot of plays for the defense. I feel I could do the same as him and get some playing time.

"If I go to Oregon St I think I could go in there and compete for a spot as a soph--there's a good chance to get some playing time there also. My brother Keith Ellison (OLB) goes there. They have a great LB tradition and send a lot of them to the NFL. Coach (Charlie) Camp (LBs) is great. They have some upperclassman that are leaving soon, so I know I can fight for a spot.

"Utah has a really good program and they are dominating some teams in the West. I don't know too much more about them, but I'd like to find out more.

"Arizona has a great coaching staff and I'm interested in playing for them. They have a good reputation for producing good DBs, and I think I could go in there and compete for some early playing time.

"USC are national champs and they're about ten minutes away from home. They have a good tradition with their LBs. And coach Ken Norton Jr. coaches LBs…well you can't go wrong with that. Their tradition in general is great. I try and stay in contact with them every week, but they're waiting to hear on other players. I guess it's just whatever happens, happens, with them…and it's not that big of a deal."

Ellison will officially visit Arizona, Oregon St and Cal (if offered)--no dates
