News and notes from the conference of champions.

Former Aloha High School quarterback Nic Costa worked out with the wide receivers last week, but was moved back to quarterback this week. "We need to get Costa's speed and quickness on the field. The situation has not presented itself up to this point, but we will continue to evaluate Nic," head coach Bob Stoops said.

The Wildcats have just two conference win in the past two years.

Arizona has not scored a touchdown in its last seven red zone possessions.

UA has not played in the Rose Bowl since 1999.


ASU's starting running back Loren Wade has sat out the past two games after the athletic department discovered he had used a university employee's vehicle. Second string back Randy Hill is out for the after tearing his ACL and third string back Hakim Hill has a cast on his right arm.

Quarterback Andrew Walter has thrown 15 touchdowns and just one interception.

The Sun Devils have not lost a fumble this year and were turnover free against Northwestern, Oregon State, and Oregon.

The defense has given up just two touchdowns through the air this year.

ASU leads the conference in sacks with 19.


CAL (at USC)
It is the first time since 1952 that Cal and USC have met while both ranked in the top 10.

The Bears led the nation with 48.7 points per game.

Cal is averaging 6.7 yards per carry, starting running back J.J. Arrington is averaging 8.6.

Cal leads the Pac-10 in scoring (48.7 ppg), total offense (539 yards per game), scoring defense (11.7) and total defense (261.7 yards). All of those figures rank in the top 12 nationally

The Bears have yet to kick a field goal and have scored every time they have visited the red zone.

Cal has won the last three of four in Los Angeles.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers is completing a Pac-10 best 74.1% of his passes.


UO is averaging almost 400 yards per game, but only 23 points per game.

The Oregon-Washington State series is tied at 36-36-7.

Quarterback Kellen Clemens has thrown at least one touchdown pass in nine consecutive games.

Oregon is off to its worst start since 1983. The Ducks have had 10 consecutive winning seasons and been to seven bowl games during that time span.

Defensive end Devan Long leads the conference in tackles for loss with 8.5.

OSU's defense has given up 12 touchdowns through the air and has only managed eight sacks in five games.

Oregon Stat's four losses have been to top 25 teams with a combined record of 16-2.

STANFORD (at Notre Dame)
The Cardinal have not defeated Notre Dame with Tyrone Willingham at the helm.

In the past two meetings with Notre Dame, Stanford has scored just 14 points.

Stanford has not played a road game this year.

T.J. Rushing leads the nation in kickoff returns with a 37.6 average.

The Cardinal lead the conference and are 11th nationally in rushing defense with 88.5 yards per game.


UCLA (Arizona at home)
Running back Maurice Drew leads the Pac-10 in rushing (167 ypg) and ranks fourth nationally with 669 total yards. He leads the country in all-purpose yards with 230 per game.

Linebacker Spencer Hanver leads the Pac-10 in tackles and has at least 13 tackles in each contest.


USC (Cal at home)
ESPN's GameDay crew will be making their first appearance at a Pac-10 game since 2000.

Since Pete Carroll took over the head coaching position he is 5-1 against top 10 teams with an average margin of victory of 23 points.

The Trojans have won their last 24 of 25 contests.

Their match up with Cal is the first of three home games.


WASHINGTON (San Jose State at home)
UW (0-4) is off to its worst start since 1969.

Wide receiver Charles Frederick has talked about playing on the Husky basketball team as well.

The Huskies have never lost to San Jose State and have never played them on the road.

Opponents are 0 for 6 on fourth down against UW.


WASHINGTON STATE (Oregon at home)
The Cougars have a two game winning streak against the Ducks.

Punter Kyle Basler leads the conference in punting with a 46.1 average.

WR Jason Hill leads the conference in touchdown receptions with six.
