1. Pick up the blitz
With the three man front, there is always somebody coming and more often than not, there are at least two players blitzing from their position. If the offensive line has good field vision and communicates to stop the blitzing, look for Derek Anderson to have ample time to pick apart the porous passing defense of the Cardinal.
2. Hold on to the ball
Turnovers and dropped passes are going to be killers in this one - especially dropped passes. The opportunity to go for big yards through the air is going to be there, but the real test are the short ones. Will the players catch the easy ones as well as making the occasional circus catch? If they do look for a Oregon State victory.
3. Score in the redzone
Field goals from inside the twenty make me cringe. I would love to see some play action passes in the red zone and also some freaking running backs who will punch it in from the three. This week, with the amount of points that Stanford gives up, the Beavers must score six, not three, when they venture inside the Stanford twenty.
This is a must win game for three reasons:
A) The Beavs bowl hopes
B) Buddy Teevens' career at Stanford
C) For the Civil War to mean so much more than it has for both teams in a long time
Prediction - Beavs 31 Stanford 17
