Ryan Cole to Oregon State

Ryan Cole, the 5-11, 205-pound running back from Port Orchard (Wash.) South Kitsap decided to cast his lot with the Oregon State Beavers this morning. The Gatorade State Player of the Year chose the Beavers over the Washington Huskies and Northwestern Wildcats.

"I pretty much weighed each school and each school was pretty equal in terms of what I was looking for, so I went with my gut feel and my heart," Cole said today. "Coach Erickson was really excited for me and said he can't wait to get me down there to play."

Anything else that went into the decision? "Well, I really like the coaching staff a lot," Cole said. "That, and Corvallis is a nice small town. It reminds me of Port Orchard in a lot of ways."

Cole is a bruising back who can also break it outside. He ran a 4.4 40 yard dash and jumped 34 inches at the 2001 Oregon Nike camp, earning him top running back honors. A two-time all-state selection, Ryan is also a very good student and fully qualified.
