Long shot?

With the absence of all-Pac-10 performer Bill Swancutt on the edge, not one returning defensive line player requires a constant double team. Mike Riley and his staff have been pushing hard to land five star recruit Gabe Long out of Fullerton College. He recently tripped to Tucson and updated Scout.com on his status.

"I like Arizona a lot, my trip was really good," Long said. "It is a place that I can see myself living and a place that I would want to go play at. I felt really at home at Arizona."

Long has already visited Oregon State and will visit the National Champion USC Trojans in the next couple of weeks.

"I liked it up at Oregon State quite a bit, but I liked Arizona a lot more," said the Mission Conference's Co-Defensive Player of the Year. "I just like the whole setting out there more. The atmosphere at the University is good and it is just a nice place.

"It is not a huge city but it is a city and it is a lot like California in a lot of ways."

Long did not name a favorite, but said that is was "pretty much" between Arizona and USC and USC at this point.

"I would say that it is pretty much between them," he said. "I don't have a favorite but I have not been to USC yet and I don't know what their coaches are all about or anything."

Long has two years to play two at the Division-1 level. He plans on majoring in Sports Medicine when he gets to the school of his choice.
