Haywood cited personal differences with head coach Ritchie McKay before moving on. He will join former Beaver assistant Rich Wold at Portland. Wold was an assistant under Eddie Payne until the conlusion of the 1999-2000 season, when Payne was fired.
Haywood averaged 9.0 points per game in 21 starts for the Beavers this year before quitting the team. Forward Brian Jackson also announced he was leaving late before returning to the team a couple of days later.
Haywood must sit out one season before he can compete due to NCAA rules.
