Thomas had a dominating season at both running back and safety last season and earned post-season honors on both sides of the ball. As a running back, he rushed for over 2,000 yards and had another 625 yards receiving to earn 1st team All-Area and 3rd team All-State.
At safety, Thomas picked off eight passes and earned 2nd team All-Area honors on that side of the ball. Despite not playing the position, Thomas said he would like to play wide receiver in college.
With his size and 4.5 speed in the 40, that may end up being his best position. The coaches at Tolleson have said Thomas may be an even better prospect than current Arizona running back Mike Bell who played at Tolleson two years ago.
On the recruiting front, Thomas is hearing from Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon State, Nebraska, UCLA, Penn State and the Ivy League.
"Arizona is my top school followed by ASU, Colorado, Nebraska and Oregon State," Thomas said. "My family is important to me and it would be great to play close to home, that's a major factor in my decision."
Academically, Thomas is carrying a 3.0 GPA and will major in Sports Management. He'll attend the Nike Camp in Los Angeles as well as summer camps at Nebraska and New Mexico.
