Jimmie Haywood May Remain at OSU

The point guard has not enrolled at the University of Portland and will wait to see who becomes the next head coach before making a final decision.

"I'd love to come back," said Jimmie Haywood Thursday when asked if he will consider returning to the Beaver Basketball team for his senior season. He has taken the wait and see attitude.

Haywood is enrolled at OSU for the spring term and will wait until the new head coach is announced before making the decision final. He had previously announced that he would leave the team, citing personal differences with head coach Ritchie McKay and that he would finish his career at the University of Portland under Head Coach Michael Holton. If Haywood does go to Portland, he must sit out one season before he can play.

McKay has since left OSU to become the head coach at New Mexico. Haywood said " I just want to have fun my senior year." Haywood would like to see a coach with an up-tempo offense come to Corvallis. Holton has been mentioned as a possible candidate to replace McKay, although it is not known how much interest OSU Athletic Director Mitch Barnhart has in Holton.

Haywood averaged 9.0 points per game in 21 starts for the Beavers this year before quitting the team.
