Anyway, I was in a minority when I took Wyoming +24 at Florida last week, but bottom line is the Cowboys only lost by 18 and Bleeda hit that one too. Week two looks to be a great weekend of college football. I'm being more selective this week since there wasn't a lot on the board that grabbed me. The BF.com staff will release it's Pac-10 picks tomorrow.
Must see TV Saturday pits #2 Texas at #4 Ohio State. This game is what college football is all about as these two heavyweight football programs will battle it out at "The Horseshoe" in a night game. The game opened as a Pick'em game and now Ohio State is a one point favorite. Bleeda loves the Buckeyes in this contest. Hell, how can you root against a team with the initials OSU?
The Longhorns led by coach Mac Brown are infamous for choking in big games.
Brown's teams are 3-10-1 against top10 opponents, while Jim Tressel at OSU is
6-1 vs the top10. OSU returns 18 starters and has a weapon by the name of Ted Ginn, who is flat out deadly. They have won 36 straight non-conference games at
Ohio Stadium since a loss to USC in 1990. How can a sane person go against the
Buckeyes in a home night game vs. the Longhorns? Bottom line, you can't. I'm
going heavy and hard on this game. Mac will be out-coached and once again Texas
will not meet pre-season expectations. Ohio State Buckeyes 24 TexASS
In the land of corn, the in-state rivalry game will be played early in the season. The eighth ranked Iowa Hawkeyes travel to Ames, IA and play the Iowa State Cyclones. The current line on this game is about Iowa -8.5. I have talked to my people in Iowa, digested the data, and have decided I still like the Cyclones to cover the number in this game. Granted the Hawkeyes destroyed Ball State in the opener 56-0 and ISU only won 32-21 over Illinois State in their opener which may give cause for concern, but these opening game scores are a bit deceiving.
Not only is Ball State bad, they had 13 players suspended for that game,
seven of which were starters. To be honest with you I don't know what the
Cyclones excuse was for their opening day performance, but week one games are
always sloppy and usually don't mean too much. Rivalry games are filled with
emotion and this ISU team is projected to win the Big 12 North division. I like
them to fight hard and with the Ames crowd behind them to give the boys from
Iowa City a scare. Iowa 31 Iowa State 24.
For my third game I'm going with my darling Wyoming Cowboys again. It's time to play Cowboys and Indians. Yep, serious. The Louisiana Monroe Indians travel to Laramie, WY. I believe the line opened at -18.5 for the Cowpokes and now is at -21. LA-Monroe lost last week to Northwestern State 27-23. The sad thing is that made it the sixth straight time they have lost to a Division 1-AA opponent at home. The Sun Belt Conference is one of the weakest and the Indians are projected to finish in the bottom half. The Cowboys held the Florida Gators to 91 yards rushing in 36 attempts last week. For whatever it's worth the CBS Sportsline Top 119 for Division 1-A has LA-Monroe 118th and Wyoming 44th.
The Cowboys have a soft spot in my heart because they completed an eight game
parlay I hit a couple years back. Five bucks to win $800, not bad for a day's
work. Now let's push the bias aside because they were a 15 point favorite in
this game last year and won by 21. This year the boys from Laramie are favored
by 21 and I say they win by 27. Indians get lassoed and shot down. Wyoming 37
Good luck everyone on your picks! Remember gather the information, digest the information, don't bet with emotion, and only play the games you like. This week the board is tough, but it looks to be an exciting weekend of college football. By the way, the OSU Beavers are a 3.5 favorite over the BSU Broncos. Nice to know the wiseguys like us. You can bleed dat!
