The Wiseguy Weekly: Don't Chase!

BeavaBleeda went 0-2 last week and dropped to 8-6 ATS on the season. It was heartbreak hotel as California blew a 40-28 fourth quarter lead and Arizona State ran into an Oregon team that played their best game of the season. No excuses though, this football prognosticating is not an exact science. It's a rollercoaster ride filled with highs, lows, win streaks, and losing streaks.

The key is to be selective with the games and not to hit the panic button when things are not going your way. Don't chase!

I was tempted to throw down big on NFL Sunday to make up for my Saturday losses, but I fought the urge and resisted the temptation. I kept telling myself, "Bleeda you know what the right thing to do is, it's to lay off, don't get all stupid and desperate on me."   This week I'm just going on one game.

Stanford at Arizona -4.5. I love the Arizona Wildcats in this spot. The Cardinal is up and down and I just don't see them putting together back to back solid performances on the road. Arizona is gaining confidence and played USC tough last week. They will be relieved to be back home and hungry for the win. Arizona 24, Stanford 17 in the battle of the Pac-10 bottom feeders.

Comments and prognostications for the other Pac-10 games:

  • Washington at Oregon -15.5. This matchup is supposedly a rivalry for the people South of Corvallis. Hogwash, if you ask me! This is no stinking rivalry. The Huskies have been improving and will be fired up for this game. I see a Duck hangover in this game. Backdoor special for U-Dub, Oregon 41 Washington 27. Smucks take one step closer to possible Fiesta Bowl BCS berth.

  • UCLA -5 at WAZZU. Ok, I think I'm finally sold on the Bruins now. This team can move the ball at will. I'm actually a bit shocked that the Bruins are not a bigger favorite. The game is in Pullman though and look for the Cougs to rebound and play to the level of their competition. Cougs lose a hearbreaker in overtime UCLA 38 WAZZU 31. Bruins take one step closer to the Fiesta Bowl?

  • USC at Notre Dame +11.5. The Trojans have showed some vulnerability as of late. The Domers will put points on the board through the air, which matches up well to USC's mediocre secondary. Two great coaches, so that's a wash. Home field advantage in this one is huge. Possible upset, but Trojans have too much talent and they are a team of destiny. USC 44 Notre Dame 34. One step closer to the Rose Bowl.

  • Oregon State +16 at CAL. The Beavers are a hard team to figure out, so logically they should keep this game close when on paper it is not close. Revenge is on the mind, as is pride. As long as turnovers don't bite the boys in black in the behind, they stay close for about three quarters. Outcome is still as expected, a Beaver loss. California 33 Oregon State 20.

Paper plays and if you don't have any green paper you probably shouldn't be playing. Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallllllllllllllllllllleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeddd it!
