James Allen selected by New Orleans Saints

Former Oregon State linebacker James Allen was selected by the New Orleans Saints with the eighty-second pick in the third round on Saturday.

Allen helped lead the 2000 Beavers to an 11-1 record and a Fiesta Bowl thrashing of the Irish of Notre Dame.

In thiry-four games at Oregon State, he compiled 197 tackles and was known as one of the best linebackers in the Pac-10. His speed (4.6) and size (6-3, 240) impressed many NFL scouts even though Allen had problems with his back during his collegiate career.

Allen left Oregon State as the all-time leader in defensive points. He was also selected as a preseason All-American and a team captain.
