RECRUITING: Another verbal for Oregon State?

OREGON STATE LOOKS to be the college destination for James Dockery, a S/WR out of Indio, Calif., but there's one more piece of official business yet to be be taken care of for the player who will soon be listed on's newest West Hot 100. The 6-2, 170 pounder talks to about his status and what it was about Oregon State that knocked him out.

Dockery says he's committed to Oregon State but will be taking one more official visit to Fresno State the weekend of Dec 10.

"I'm committed," said Dockery. "Unless something really changes my mind drastically at Fresno State, I'm going to be at Oregon State next year."

In addition to Oregon State, Dockery has offers from Washington, BYU, UTEP, Fresno State, Utah State, San Diego State, Idaho and others. Schools who offered official visits included ASU, Arizona, Utah and Nevada.

THE OFFICIAL VISIT to Corvallis exceeded all of Dockery's expectations.

"I liked the college environment with everybody amped up and fired up before the game," he said. "There's a lot of young people in the city, it's energetic and upbeat. I like the school, how everything was laid out and I liked the opportunity to play in the best conference in the nation."

And Dockery really hit it off with Beaver verbal John Reese, host Bryan Payton and secondary coach and defensive coordinator Mark Banker.

"I really clicked with the safeties coach when I broke down film with him," said Dockery.

DOCKERY WILL GET his first look at safety but could also end up playing receiver for the Beavs.

"Receiver is definitely an option," said "Mark Banker just said it's a big plus for them to have a guy who can play on both sides of the ball. A lot of times if you get a guy who doesn't fit in the scheme of the defense -- they're just stuck. But with me, I'm going to fit in on offense, I'm going to fit in on defense, I'm going to fit in some way. But I'm going to get my first shot at safety."

This season for Palm Desert, Dockery is second on the team in tackles with 85, (46 solo). On offense, he has 42 receptions for 712 yards and six touchdowns for the undefeated Aztecs (9-0).

Dockery will be listed on the new West Hot 100, with the latest re-rankings slated to be released sometime next week. will be listing Dockery as a soft verbal to Oregon State, with the scheduled official visit to Fresno State pending.
