Oregon State in top 4

California linebacker Travis Goethel (6-2.5, 215, 4.6) finished his senior season with over 100 tackles and 14 for loss. He also had eight sacks, five interceptions (two for touchdowns), one fumble caused and one recovered. His team finished with a 9-3-1 record. He still denies a leader, but has narrowed it down to four.

Utah, Oregon State, Washington and Colorado.

Goethel already visited Utah on September 12 and Oregon State on November 12.

"I really got along very well with all the players at Oregon State," Goethel said. "They are all cool guys and I know a few people from this area already. I also like coach Mike Riley. He came by for an in-home visit last week and I like how smart and laid-back he is."

Goethel says that Utah is recruiting him the hardest.

"They call a lot more often and tell me how good of a fit I'd be for their defense. I could probably play early there. They visited me at home last week too."

He said that the Washington coaches are supposed to visit him at home sometime this week.

"I have a visit set up with them for January, but I want to move it up for this month," Goethel said. "I really like the Pac-10 and they said they need linebackers so I'd at least get a chance to play. I want to take at least this trip to Washington before I decide. I may not have time to visit Colorado. If I do, I will."

He reports a 3.0 GPA and a 720 SAT.
