Top Washington lineman getting looks

Brett Thielke is a 6-5, 285-pound offensive lineman from Issaquah (Wash.) Skyline and Brett has been laying low, taking in all the attention that comes with being a recruited football player during the month of May. The list of schools is long and distinguished, and Thielke updated us on the nuts and bolts of the happenings around SHS.

"I don't have any offers yet, but seems like several schools are seriously interested in me," Thielke told last night. "So far this month, I've talked to Coach (Keith) Gilbertson from UW, Coach Zoomer (Neal Zoumboukos) from Oregon, Coach (Gregg) Smith from Oregon State, Coach Heflich at ASU and Coach Hanson at Portland State. Also the following schools have been at Skyline getting my transcripts and talking to my coaches - Stanford, Cal, Notre Dame, Washington, Washington State, Oregon State, ASU, Arizona, Northwestern and Montana."

Brett's been checking out the web and wanted to difuse any speculation as to where he'll end up. "There's one thing that's been talked on the some of the websites that's just not true - I am not a lock for Stanford," he said. "My grades are good, and I think my SAT will be good, but both are borderline for Stanford admission."

Thielke was also able to quickly let us in as to what he'll be doing this summer. "As far as camps, I've finally been able to pin it down," he said. "I'm going to the lineman Olympics at the UW on June 9, then I'm going to half the Oregon camp and half the Washington camp. In July, I'll be going with my team to the Evergreen (the old UPS) camp.

"I'm on Week 5 of a six week sports performance training course with Joe Nance. I really feel like it has helped my speed and strength. I guess I'll find out when we start our spring camp at school on June 4."
