Interest surging in Idaho lineman

FAST BECOMING ONE of the more sought-after offensive linemen in the region, Carson York now holds three offers -- including one from Oregon State -- with more schools seemingly on the verge. The 6-5, 270-pounder out of Coeur d'Alene recently received a dozen handwritten letters from the school that was first to offer, and unofficial visits are planned later this month to OSU and Oregon. Plus, he names his early favorites.

York holds offers from Washington State, Oregon and Oregon State.

"I think I've got to rank Oregon State, Oregon and Washington State all together at the top because those are the schools that have offered me," said York. "Initially, before I received this much attention, those are the schools I really had a lot of interest in."

Already having been on an unofficial visit to Washington State last month, York will take unofficials to the Oregon schools in a few weeks time.

"I'm going down to Oregon the weekend of the 18th to visit both Oregon and Oregon State," said York.

Any final decision, however, looks to be a long ways down the road.

"I have to see if anything happens nationally, but all three of the schools that have offered me are all dream schools," said York.

WSU WAS THE first to offer the Lake City High hoss, just 24 hours after the '06 Signing Day had drawn to a close. The Cougars recently reiterated their interest, while Oregon State offered before he'd talked to them or received a single piece of mail.

"I got 12 letters from Washington State, one from every coach," said York. "Oregon State said they had just watched my tape 15 minutes before they offered me. And I've always liked Oregon and what they've got going on down there.

"I've always been a big Northwest kind of guy."

That leaves one other school in the region; Washington.

York recently attended the Huskies' junior day, saying he enjoyed the campus and time spent in Seattle. The UW staff told York they hadn't had a chance to look at his tape but planned on doing so after the weekend had ended.

"I don't think Washington is a school that I'd immediately commit to if offered or anything but they'd be up there with Washington State, Oregon and Oregon State if they offered," said York.

Other schools who could be close to offering include ASU, Stanford, Northwestern and Vanderbilt.

"Arizona State and Stanford are talking to my coach," said York. "ASU is asking for a full game tape and Stanford is asking for transcripts."

All-league and All-North Idaho as a junior, York is an aggressive, hard nosed lineman quick off the ball. His frame is conducive to gains and he's also an honors student, carrying a 3.9 GPA in the classroom.
