Week 1 Spring Recap

News, notes, recaps and links from the first week of spring practice at Oregon State University.

Day 4 - Apr. 8

Short recap - The first serious shuffle broke out as C Kyle DeVan, LB Isaiah Cook and DE Joe Rudulph among several others were involved. When the dust settled Rudulph was kicked out of practice for a forearm to the back of Devan's helmet.

Coach Mike Riley continues watch the offense closely and focus on the quarterbacks varying their cadence.

Day 3 - Apr. 7

Short recap - S Sabby Piscitelli turned in a strong day deflecting several passes as the secondary starts to jell.  The "starting" receivers continue to shine as the offensive line gives all of the quarterbacks plenty of time to throw.  It looks like QB Sean Canfield may be distancing himself from Ryan Gunderson for the No. 2 spot.

DE Dorian Smith is expected to be practicing by Wednesday of next week while LB Andy Darkins' bicep surgery was successful.

Day 2 - Apr. 5

Short recap - The offense continued to light it up as the coaches added new plays, but the defense countered with several interceptions.  WR Marcel Love, RB Clinton Polk, DE Joe Rudulph, and DE Victor Butler all practiced after missing the first day of practice.

Day 1 - Apr. 3

Short recap - QB Matt Moore and TE Joe Newton looked fully healed from their knee injuries. Moore is wearing a brace on his knee. Two players are out rehabbing - walk on RB Tony Carrasco and LB Eddie Stamm.

Junior college transfers DE Dorian Smith and RB Clinton Polk were not at practice but are expected to enroll in school soon. DE Victor Butler and Joe Rudulph missed practice due to transportation issues.  WR Marcel Love is expected to be back in school soon and was on the sidelines. DE Joe Lemma was at practice but did not participate.

The offense looked better than the defense as receivers Sammie Stroughter, Anthony Wheat-Brown and Ruben Jackson all shined. RB Yvenson Bernard had a commanding presence.
