Week 2 Spring Recap

News, notes, recaps and links from the second week of spring practice at Oregon State University.

Day 8 - Apr. 15

Short recap - In the first scrimmage of spring QB Sean Canfield and RB Clinton Polk turned on solid performances.  Canfield completed 9 of 14 passes for 134 yards and one touchdown while Polk carried the ball 10 times for 62 yards and one score.  RB Yvenson Bernard was held out of the scrimmage to avoid injury while WR Anthony Wheat-Brown sat out due to a leg injuries.

S Sabby Piscitelli turned in a fine day with several pass deflections while DE Jeff Van Orsow recorded three touch sacks.

Coach Mike Riley called the scrimmage "clean."

"The whole football team needs more work," Riley said. "We made a lot of progress procedurally. It was a pretty clean scrimmage. We did a pretty good job of handling the game. We just have to keep going."


Day 7 - Apr. 14

Short recap - QB Matt Moore continues to look sharp getting rid of the ball quickly and making the correct decision.  The secondary had a decent day, particularly Brandon Hughes, who bounced back from a rough practice on Apr. 12.  WR Anthony Wheat-Brown continues to struggle through leg injuries.

WR Ruben Jackson did not practice due to violating team rules.


Day 6 - Apr. 12

Short recap - The offense put on a show with QB Matt Moore, the starting receivers, RB Clinton Polk and RB Yvenson Bernard headlining the act. 

DE Dorian Smith practiced for the first time.  OL James Otuhiva has been moved to TE for badly needed depth.


Day 5 - Apr. 10

Short recap - RB Nate Wright leaves the program in search of playing time as the offense works on the running game.  DE Dorian Smith watched practice in street clothes and is expected to start practicing this week.

TE Joe Newton dominated the red zone action using his big frame to shield off defenders.  WR Anthony Wheat-Brown tweaked his hamstring and sat out several drills.
