Week 4 Spring Recap

News, notes, recaps and links from the final week of spring practice at Oregon State University.

Day 15 - Apr. 29 - SPRING GAME

Short recap - Despite the offense being ahead of the defense for the majority of April it was the defense that had people talking at the conclusion of the annual spring game.

Strong play by the secondary resulted in three interceptions, including a 41-yard return by S Sabby Piscitelli for a touchdown.  DE Jeff Van Orsow and LB Alan Darlin both put in solid days with Van Orsow grabbing three sacks and Darlin leading all players with eight tackles.

QB Matt Moore finished the day completed 12 of 16 for 112 yards, one touchdown and one interception.  QB Sean Canfield completed 8 of 22 for 115 yards and one touchdown. RB Clinton Polk led all running backs with 20 carries for 44 yards.  Polk and WR Brandon Powers led all receivers catching 3 passes for 63 yards apiece.

WR Sammie Stroughter and TE James Otuhiva sat out due to injuries.  RB Yvenson Bernard did not play due to coach's decision.

Day 14 - Apr. 26

Short recap - The spring scrimmage is just around the corner as the first team offense and second team defense will be team one while the first team defense and the second team offense will be team 2.  Several players will suit up for both squads.

Day 13 - Apr. 24

Short recap - WR Anthony Wheat-Brown made his return after sitting out a week and performed splendidly catching several passes in the middle of the field. WR Anthony Crosby made a diving catch down the sidelines that was reminiscent of Chad Johnson's catch in the 2000 Civil War.

QB Matt Moore and QB Sean Canfield looked good as well getting rid of the ball quickly while making strong, accurate throws.

Defensively, CB Bryan Payton performed well again snatching another pick and getting his hands on several others. LB Joey LaRocque also looked good grabbing an INT and having several touch sacks. S Sabby Piscitelli took it easy after tweaking his shoulder in Saturday's scrimmage.

Coach Mike Riley said that Saturday's scrimmage will feature two teams.

"We are going to have two teams, we have just enough people to do that. We are thin at tight end, so there will be one tight end (Joe Newton, Jason Vandiver) on each team."
