Camp takes longer route to scholarship
Brady Camp isn't one to boast about his accomplishments, but he figured he'd done enough to earn the attention of college football coaches.

After all, he was one of only three athletes to earn Class 4A first-team all-state honors on offense and defense last season and he's always been an honor roll student. Still, by late January, the Barlow senior was without a Division I scholarship offer ... more from the Oregonian.

Focused on his dream
At first James Dockery had a difficult time accepting the obvious.

He was now a minority -- this after being a member of the majority for most of his life. He arrived in Palm Desert just in time to enroll in middle school and it was clear this desert city didn't resemble the heavily minority communities of West Covina or Pomona, where he was born and raised. And it certainly wasn't New York's Spanish Harlem, where he had lived the previous five years of his life ... more from

Choking Dog team roster is filling up
Gary Payton for choking on his commitment — and his words. The Heat guard said in 2002 he would donate $3 million to Oregon State to help build a new basketball practice center. Four years later, no center and no donation.  Asked last week by a Portland columnist about the matter, Payton put him off several times, then said, "I don't know. What do you want me to say? Call my agent. I don't know what happened." ... more from The Desert News.

Sleeping with the Enemy
Oregon’s new Nike-designed football uniforms are being unveiled today. No, they’re not quite as extreme as the illustration shown at right, but they’re predictably silly nonetheless, featuring four different jerseys, four different pants, and three different helmets, all of which can be mixed and matched (plus there will be several different undersleeve options, creating even more of a crazy-quilt effect). They’ve also reprised the diamondplate pattern and the “Oregon” and “O” on the pants, all of which first appeared in last year’s Civil War game. Basically, the whole thing is ridiculous, which is pretty much what everyone expected ... more from | Eugene Register Guard
