Evergreen State tight end eyes Beavs

TWO OF THE previous three seasons at Oregon State, the second leading receiver has lined up at tight end spot. The Beavs were one of the first to offer David Paulson, a tight end prospect out of Auburn, Wash., with hands like glue and slick route running abilities. The 6-4, 230 pounder traveled to OSU this offseason, coming away with a favorable impression of the school, town and Mike Riley.

The charms of Corvallis were not lost on Paulson during a visit to OSU this offseason.

"I really like the town, its a nice little college town environment," said Paulson. "And I like Mike Riley a lot."

In addition to Oregon State, Paulson holds offers from Oregon, Cal, Idaho, Eastern Washington and just recently picked up an offer from Ty Willingham and the Huskies.

Paulson said he's had the most contact over the past few weeks, through text messaging and phone conversations, with Oregon State, Cal, Oregon and Washington.

Brother Chris was a walk-on linebacker for Washington State from 2001-03, and David camped with the Cougs last month.

"They like me a lot but they said they'd like me to be more physical," said Paulson. "They said they'd keep watching me."

With six offers already under his belt, Paulson said he's not in any rush and there's been no change as far as timetable or naming any leaders.

"No, I still want to just take my visits," said Paulson.

Chris Fetters, NW Recruiting Analyst for Scout.com, ranks Paulson the No. 3 tight end and No. 19 prospect overall in the region.

"Paulson is a guy that has receiver game in a body that should continue to get bigger - a real asset," says Fetters. "As it stands, even if he doesn't get that much bigger, he can still be utilized as an h-back or slot receiver because of his size and speed...He has not shown much in the blocking or pass protection areas to date."

As a junior for Auburn Riverside High, Paulson hauled in 35 receptions for 375 yards and seven TDs over the regular season, splitting his time between receiver and tight end.

He is also an outstanding student, carrying a 3.9 core GPA.
