Profile 2003 - Richard Kovalcheck (QB)
One of the top quarterback prospects from the state of California is Richard Kovalacheck. Kovalcheck, from San Diego (Calif.) St. Augustine High School, has many offers despite suffering a severe knee injury last season. "I tore my ACL," said Kovalcheck. "I basically got hit late on a scramble. I was flushed out of the pocket and got swung around. Rehab has gone well and I am almost 100%. I am cleared to play. I just have to be committed to get back where I was." Kolvacheck did play in seven games last season. He still threw for over 2,000 yards and 20 touchdown passes. Kolvacheck has a strong and accurate arm and before the injury he moved very well. According to Kolvacheck, he has scholarship offers from San Diego State, Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Oregon State, UCLA, Washington, Michigan State, Boston College and Texas A&M. "Today, I like Arizona State, USC, Colorado, and Washington. It changes everyday. I would like to just find a place where I will have an opportunity to play. I have to pick a coaching staff where I know I will be happy with them for four or five years. I think it is important as well to pick a school that you would love to go to even if you did not play football." Kolvacheck is also outstanding in the classroom where he carries a 3.7 GPA and 1370 SAT.
