Reviewing the Preview Magazines

A couple of us at BeaverFootball.com set out to find the best college football preview magazines. Nowadays, we have at least six college football preview magazines to choose from and all cost six to seven bucks a shot. Most people cannot afford nor do they want to buy five different preview magazines, so we did all the research and all you have to do is read this article then go to your local magazine retailer and pick up a copy that best suits your particular needs.

We started our search at the local Barnes and Nobel. Barnes and Noble had four preview magazines available, including Pac-10 specific preview magazines and national preview magazines. As we sat down with our four magazines we quickly saw a difference between the publications. Some looked better than others but had little for content, others didn't look as good, but had excellent content. After perusing the magazines for an hour or so, we deduced we needed a better selection of magazines.

WinCo was nearby so we sauntered on over to the grocery warehouse. Suprisingly, WinCo turned out to have the best selection of college football preview magazines. Six different preview magazines were available and you get a 10% discount off of the cover price. We sat down in the middle of the isle to begin our research. We reviewed Athlon Sports, Jim Feist, Lindys, Phil Steele, the Sporting News and Street and Smiths. The following is what each magazine had to say about the Beavers and the PAC-10.

Lindy's uses a good mix of pictures and text throughout the magazine. Although many pictures are used, there is plenty of information presented on each team. The previews of each team are not as in-depth as we would have liked and they only mention the starters from the previous years team.

An all-american list, a national top 115, and all-conference lists are given, but the predicted order of finish for each conference is not.

Lindy's is good for a short overview of each team, but contains little inside information.
