Washington hoss eyes game day in Corvallis

STEVEN AYERS, an explosive 6-4, 275-pound offensive lineman with an Oregon State offer, said he plans on taking at least one unofficial visit to Corvallis over the next month or so. The Bellingham, Wash., hoss from Sehome High talks recruiting plus official & unofficial visits with BeaverFootball.com, and there are three-plus minutes of highlight video available to BF.C subscribers.

Ayers said he doesn't plan to take any official trips until his senior season at Sehome High comes to a close, but he did make it over to Washington State for the USC game this past Saturday.

"I've been a Cougar fan for a long time and a lot of my family (mom and three of her siblings) have graduated from Wazzu," said Ayers. "So this was just the annual pilgrimage back to Pullman for the one game that we've been doing for a while now. It was a family thing."

Ayers did get to spend a little time chatting with the coaching staff, as did Guerra, which he said went "great". He also was in the stands two weeks prior to see Washington State's win against Baylor at Qwest Field in Seattle.

INCLUDING WASHINGTON STATE, Ayers holds five D-IA offers -- Oregon State, UNLV, Idaho, Boise State.

"The five schools that have offered have all been calling pretty regularly," said Ayers. "As well as Utah and a couple of the Ivy league schools."

Next up for Ayers are unofficial trips to two other Northwest schools, Oregon State and Washington, but he hasn't decided on the dates yet.

"I plan to get down to UW at least once and I want to get down to Corvallis at least once too," he said.

Ayers cell phone battery died mid-conversation but beforehand, he said he'll also be getting some video together soon from his senior season to send out to Washington.

"They have not been giving me any calls or personal notes lately since their season started but I'm going to get some tapes of my first two games and send them down to them and see what happens there," he said.

STRENGTH NUMBERS for Ayers include a 340 pound power clean, 550-pound squat and a 340-pound bench press.
