JC hoss deciding whether to come full circle

WITH OREGON STATE one of two offers, junior college prospect Jon Ioane was in Corvallis recently, and again, on an official visit -- the hoss originally signed with Mike Riley and Oregon State before going the JC route. Now in his sophomore year at Santa Ana and now checking in at 6-5, 345 pounds, the offensive tackle and the Beavs are again talking about his joining the OSU football program.

Ioane was in town for the Beavers-Cougars game. He said the school recruiting the hardest is the same one he signed with out of Tustin High in 2004.

"Oregon State," said Ioane. "The players were great. You know what was cool about it was they were 2-2 but they were still standing together. Everything over there is about football."

Ioane said staying close to home and a coaching staff will be two primary considerations. Tustin is about 30 minutes outside of L.A.

"I've known the (OSU) coaching staff for a long time, they actually (signed) me out of high school. That's a great coaching staff," he said. Still, Ioane said he doesn't really have a leader and has no timetable for a decision, saying he wants to take his time and make the right decision. Iowa State is the other school to have offered, with Georgia and Utah also showing interest.

"I left there excited but I didn't make a commitment," said Ioane of Oregon State. "I might go to Iowa State after one of my games if I can."

Ioane, who also plays on Saturdays at Santa Ana (6-0), used his bye week to trip to OSU.

COMING OUT OF Tustin, Ioane chose Oregon State over Washington State and others but did not receive academic clearance from the NCAA. He was a member of the Scout.com West Hot 100 as a prep senior, rated as the No. 81 best prospect in the region.

Considered a dominant run blocker in high school, he was rated as the 63rd-best prospect in California by SuperPrep, and clocked a 4.93 in the 40 at 6-foot-4 and 315 pounds.

Oregon State is recruiting Ioane as an offensive tackle.
