A couple big unit plays were lethal early in the year, but no complaints about hitting games at a 58.8% clip. We are going wacky wiseguy style this week with an upset special moneyline play, a teaser, and a small unit homer pick sprinkled in on the Beavers. There was a lot of upsets on the big board in week seven.
Week eight is also notoriously known for the doggies to sneak up and bite someone when they ain't lookin'. Time is a wasting so let's start making some money!
#5 TexASS @ #17 Nebraska +6.5 and ML +205.
Ok, for those of you not in the know, ML=moneyline, which means "straight up win." If you play the ML for every $100 you put on Nebraska you get $205 back.
The Longhorns will be exposed this weekend as they face the "Big Red Machine" at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, NE playing in front of approximately 74,000 red-clad Cornhusker fans. It's a battle of the Big 12 Conference's most explosive offense versus the stingiest defense.
TexASS is averaging 42.7 points per game (mostly against creampuffs). Meanwhile the Cornhuskers have just allowed 13.4 points per game. Many think this line will go up to a touchdown and a hook before kickoff because the betting public loves TexASS.
This game is one to wait and pull the trigger on, but I'm pulling it now just for the heck of it. I'll play $200 on the ML to win $410, also making a $550 bet, taking the points, and ‘Braska to win the ½ buck. I'm feeling frisky and it just feels right.
Next play will be a teaser. Oh dear Bleeda, what is a teaser? Well, boys and girls it's like a parlay, but different.
You pick a handful of games and get to tease (add) points to the spread. For instance, Oregon State is favored by two and you are playing a 10 point teaser card, you then actually have a line of OSU at +8. Nice deal, huh? The Beavs lose by a touchdown and you still win! The thing is, like a parlay, you need to hit all the games on your ticket, hence the name teaser.
At one of my sportsbooks my people run in Antigua, you can play a two or three team 10 point teaser. The three teaser has 10/12 odds, you get 10 bones for every 12 ya lay down. This is a sucker bet, just like a parlay, because there are more games that you need to pick correctly therefore decreasing your odds of winning. Plus, the payoff on a teaser is much less than an actual parlay. I must add though, the tease bets on NFL games have been breaking the Vegas books this year since favorites have been winning at an alarming rate.
I'm going to experiment with a three team teaser this week in college football and see what happens. $1200 to win $1000; hope this doesn't blow up in my face. Here's my card:
- Washington @ #11 CAL -12.5 - Washington is without Stanback now,
Cal is on fire.
- Iowa @ #2 Michigan -3.5 - Michigan will run up score to help its
case in the BCS.
- Rutgers #19 +16.5 @ Pitt - Rutgers will win this game straight
Oregon State -2 @ Arizona.
Beaver Nation has silenced its "Fire Riley" and "Play Canfield Moore" chants for now. The Beavers are coming off an impressive road victory over the UW Huskies last weekend and momentum is on their side. Quarterback Matt Moore and the rest of the team will be bringing some swagger to Tucson. T
he defense is clicking on all cylinders and the sack totals are multiplying. Find me a reason not to pick the Beavs against a pathetic Wildcat team! Sure, it may be close, but OSU has the best kicker in the nation and if that needs to be the difference, then so be it. Beavs win! 'Cats lose! $11 to win $10.
Now that's what you call gamblin' for entertainment purposes only! The classic "penny" bet.
