FSN Classics to Air '98 Civil War

What many call "The greatest Civil War ever" will be featured on FSN Classics Tues., Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m.

The Beavers, led by head coach Mike Riley, snapped Oregon's four-game winning streak in the series with a thrilling 44-41 victory in double overtime in the 102nd meeting at then Parker Stadium. The win marked OSU's fifth of the season and was the springboard to the program's current success.

A running back by the name of Ken Simonton, then a freshman, rushed for 157 yards and four touchdowns, including the game-winning 16-yard scamper into the south endzone. Quarterback Jonathan Smith threw for 303 yards and two touchdowns and former quarterback turned receiver Tim Alexander snagged five passes for 102 yards and a score.

The Beavers won the game despite Oregon quarterback Akili Smith passing for 430 yards and four touchdowns.
