Last time Oregon State and Oregon met...
Nov. 19, 2005 in Eugene - Oregon 56, Oregon State 14
Oregon and Oregon State met at Eugene and the No. 10-ranked Ducks scored 14 points in each quarter in rolling to a 56-14 win. The 56 points scored by the Ducks were the most ever by either team in Civil War history. Oregon QB Dennis Dixon tossed three TD passes and freshman TB Jonathan Stewart scored two TDs, one on a 97-yard kickoff return. The UO defense picked off four OSU passes. A bright spot for the Beavers was TB Yvenson Bernard, who rushed for 128 yards and a TD ... more from BF.com

Series history (Oregon leads 55-44-10, 25-17-5 in Corvallis).
Oregon owns a 55-44-10 advantage in the series that dates back to 1894.  Only six other Division I rivalries in the country have transpired more often than the Oregon-Oregon State Civil War and none west of the Rocky Mountains.  The road team has not won since 1996 when the Ducks crushed Oregon State 49-13 in Corvallis.

Oregon connections.
RT Josh Linehan's younger brother Cole Linehan is a defensive tackle for UO. Oregon secondary coach John Neal coached the Oregon State secondary from 1987-89 while UO defensive coordinator Nick Aliotti was the running backs coach at Oregon State from
1980-83.

Oregon Assistant Head Coach Neal Zoumboukos was the offensive line coach at Oregon State way back in 1979 while Duck defensive line coach Michael Gray coached the defensive line in Corvallis from 1997-02.

Bowl game.
Both the Beavers and Ducks and heading to bowl games at the end of the year.  A win by Oregon State would almost certainly put them in the Sun Bowl against a Big 12 or Big East opponent.  A win by Oregon would create a tie at third place with potentially three other teams and the bowl committees would get their pick.

Here's a look at the Pac-10's bowl arrangements:

Picked to finish.
Before the start of the 2006 season the media selected the Ducks to finish third with the Beavers at seventh.  A win by Oregon State this week would ensure it third place in the Pac-10 and possibly a tie for second with California if they lose to Stanford a week from now.

A win by Oregon could result in a four-team tie for third with Arizona if it wins this week against Arizona state and if UCLA defeats USC next week.

Final home game for 13 seniors.
The following seniors are making their final appearance at Reser Stadium Friday.  The class includes players from six states, including three home grown products.

Another chance.
For the second time this season head coach Mike Riley can move to two games over the .500 mark for the first time in his college head coaching career. OSU will end the season with a winning mark in Pac-8/10 conference action for the third time, twice under Riley -- 2004 (5-3)
and 2006 (tbd). He currently is 35-34 overall.

If OSU wins Friday it would give them six conference wins, their second most in program history. The 2000 Beavers went 7-1 and shared the
conference title with Washington and Oregon.

Top receivers in the Pac-10.
Two of the conferences, and nations, best receivers will be on the field this Friday.  OSU's Sammie Stroughter is second in the Pac-10 and 12th in the nation in receiving yards per game (89.6).  Stroughter has 55 catches for a conference best 986 yards and three touchdowns and has topped the century mark three times.

UO's Jaison Williams is one of 14 finalists for the Biletnikoff Award and leads the Pac-10 and is 11th in the nation in receiving yards per game (92.9). Williams has had five 100-yard receiving games this season, tying a school season record.  He also leads the conference in receptions for game (6.2) and is fourth on the team with six touchdowns.

Beaver dam.
Oregon State added six more tackles for loss, including five more sacks, against Stanford last week.  The Beavers are first in the conference for total quarterback sacks with 38, accounting for a conference high 275 yards lost.  OSU is third in the nation for sacks per game at 3.4.

The Beavers also have 50 additional tackles for loss.  The 88 total tackles-for-loss averages to 8.0 per game - good for fifth in the nation.  OSU's TFLs have accounted for national leading 431 yards in losses.

Here are some more facts about the Beaver "D:"

  • Seventeen Beavers have a sack or more
  • DE Dorian Smith leads the team with six sacks
  • 26 of OSU's 38 sacks have been acquired in the last seven games.
  • Six different players have three or more sacks
  • The unit leads the nation in third-down conversion percentage allowing 26.1-percent
  • Opponents are just 15 of 74 (20%) when facing 3rd and 7-plus yards.
  • The three starting linebackers, Derrick Doggett, Alan Darlin and Joey LaRocque have combined for 136 tackles over the last seven games, including 18.5 for losses and 8 sacks

100 and a W for both teams.
Oregon State is 6-0 this season when a tailback rushes for 100-plus yards. The Beavers are averaging 161.7 yards per game on the ground in their victories, 65.7 in their losses. OSU's only win when a back didn't rush for 100 yards was against Arizona State (team netted 121 yards).

Coincidentally, when UO's Jonathan Stewart rushes for over 100 yards the Ducks have not lost sporting a 5-0 record. When Stewart has been held below 100 yards on the ground this year, Oregon has managed a 2-4 mark.  Stewart has just 68 yards in his last two games.

Additional notes.

  • For the first time in its renovated history Reser Stadium will be sold out (43,300).  On the flip side Oregon has 48 consecutive sellouts in Autzen.

  • Over the last three seasons Oregon State is 15-2 when committing fewer turnovers than its opponent, 2-11 when committing more and 2-2 when even. In its last three victories, OSU is plus-8. For the season, the Beavers are plus-5.

  • Oregon State leads the conference for time of possession averaging 32:23 per game. Oregon ranks ninth but leads the Pac-10 with 270 first downs.

  • Oregon is looking to snap a two-game losing streak -- their longest such streak since losing three in a row to end the 2004 season.

  • The Ducks have posted a 25-12 mark in November under Belloti.  Four the 12 losses in November have been at the hands of Oregon State (1998, 2000, 2000, 2004).

  • The Ducks lead the league in pass defense, allowing 147.7 yards per game (third nationally), and trail USC and Oregon State in total defense -- 299.6 avg. -- (30th in the country).

  • Oregon ranks first in the Pac-10 (10th nationally) in rushing offense (192.9 ypg), first in total offense (eighth nationally) with 437.3 ypg, second in scoring offense, averaging 31.6 points per game (17th nationally) and fourth in passing offense (244.8 yards per game), 22nd nationally.

  • Oregon is 2-3 on the road this season and 5-1 at home.  Oregon State is 4-2 at home and 3-2 on the road.

  • The Ducks lead the Pac-10 in 3rd down conversions and the Beavers lead the conference in stopping opponent's 3rd down attempts.

  • The Beavers defense leads the conference in sacks, while the Ducks have allowed only 12 sacks on the year, second in the conference.

  • UO LB Blair Phillips leads the team in tackles with 97 and ranks third in the Pac-10 in tackles per game (8.8).

  • QB Matt Moore has the longest active streak in the nation for pass attempts without an interception with 117.

  • PK Alexis Serna has converted 94 straight PATs, a school record.
