Just outside the top 20

For just the second time since the USA Today Coaches Poll started in 1982 and the seventh time since the Associated Press Poll started in 1936 the Oregon State football team finished in the top 25. OSU finished No. 21 in the AP Poll and No. 22 in the Coaches Poll.

The appearance in the final rankings is the first for the Beavers since the 2000 season, when it was No. 4 in AP and No. 5 in the USA Today poll. Three of OSU's 2006 opponents (#4 USC, #5 Boise State and #14 California) finished the season ranked in the AP Poll while four made the Coaches Poll (#4 USC, #6 Boise State, #14 California, #24 Hawaii).

According to ESPN, Oregon State's two point conversion to win the Sun Bowl was the sixth best play during the bowl season while Jeff Van Orsow swatting down John David Booty's pass to defeat USC was the eighth biggest play in 2006.

Here's a look at where OSU has placed in the AP and Coaches Polls in the past.
