- OSUBeavers.com - Defense strong in opening scrimmage
- Short recap -
The Beaver defense dominated the 93-play scrimmage as several starters (Yvenson Bernard, Brandon Powers, Jeff Van Orsow, Roy Schuening, and Derrick Doggett) sat out allowing the second and third string players to display their talents.
The quarterbacks and receivers struggled against tight coverage and blustering wind as Sean Canfield, Ryan Gunderson, Lyle Moevao and Brennan Sim completed 15 of 42 pass attempts for 180 yards and one touchdown. Gunderson took a collection of second and third team players on an 11-play 70-yard drive that culminated with a 31-yard pass to receiver Sam Oltman for the only touchdown pass.
Linebackers Joey LaRocque and Dennis Christopher each made an interception of Canfield to hinder the Beaver passing game. Backup safety Austin Hall had the other interception of the day, picking off a stray Gunderson pass.

Overall impressions - "It certainly looked like the defense dominated and I'm not concerned about that right now. I was actually pretty pleased with the offense for only our eighth practice of the year. We ran the ball pretty consistently today, but we didn't throw the ball well to establish much there. Our third-teamers actually got more work than anybody today and that was really the purpose of the scrimmage. The younger and newer guys got a chance to finish plays; they don't have a chance to do that during regular practices. "
