Ioane's arrival in Corvallis imminent

IN LESS THAN THREE WEEKS, the Beavs will see Jon Ioane make his long awaited arrival on the Oregon State campus. The 6-5, 340 pound hoss who originally signed with OSU out of Tustin High and then last February out of Santa Ana JC, will join the competition for the starting left tackle spot, with Mike Riley saying the Beavs signed JC linemen "who we thought could impact the competition to start."

Ioane (pronounced E-oh-wahn-nee) says he'll arrive in Corvallis and be ready to roll for the first fall camp practice at Oregon State on August 3.

"I'm headed out there on August 2," said Ioane.

Similar to incoming JC offensive tackle Michael Cole, as detailed in an article published earlier this week on, Ioane is wrapping up his final junior college course prior to receiving his AA degree.

"I took 27 units in the spring and passed every single class. I'm just taking one more summer class and I'll be done. I should complete it on July 25, and then once my transcripts come through and everything is correct, then I'll be headed on up there," said Ioane.

The Beaver coaching staff has been keeping close tabs on Ioane's progress, both academically and football-wise.

"I talk to coach Hull every other day," said Ioane. "He's been telling me to keep getting in shape down here so when I get up there, I'll be ready to compete for a starting job right away."

The Beavers returns 4-of-5 offensive line starters this season from a unit that helped plough the road on the way to a 10-win season in '06. Left tackle Adam Koets has graduated and is now with the NY Giants, setting up a battle royale for the starting job between Ioane, junior Tavita Thompson, Cole and others.

IOANE HAS DEMONSTRATED the ability to dominate up front both in high school and at the junior college level, and is particularly effective in the running game. Don't let the size fool you, he had an excellent pair of feet and coming out of Tustin High at 315 pounds, he clocked a 4.93 in the 40.

He will has two to play two at Oregon State.
