Fall Camp - Aug. 20

Mike Riley has named the starting tight end after a close battle between a quartet of Beavers. The starting quarterback who will be throwing the pigskin to him is still yet to be determined, however. But Tuesday might be QB decision day. Wide receiver depth is a growing source of concern, with Riley saying the Beavs are now having to look at true freshman as viable backups.

- Short recap -

Howard Croom was named the No. 1 TE but in a tight battle, so Gabe Miller, John Reese and Brady Camp will all see "a lot of action," according to the Gazette Times.

No word on Monday if RB Clinton Polk has cleared up his academic issues. Ryan McCants appears to be the No. 2 ball carrier in his absence and Riley has also taken a liking to Matt Sieverson.

D-lineman Naymon Frank (ankle) was on crutches after injuring himself during Saturday's scrimmage but is not expected out for long.

Riley said there was no change in Sammie Stroughter's status. The wide receiver has now missed 12 days of camp.

- Riley says -

"We need more receivers, frankly. We're kind of thin right now when we are looking at true freshman as viable backups."

On Kyle Brown's elbow, which has kept him out more than a week: "He is doing better." On Frank's injury: "He's OK. It's an old injury that flared up a little bit, but it's nothing that won't get better.
