DRIVE CHART: Idaho State at Oregon State

A blow by blow account of Oregon State's 61-10 victory Sept. 15 versus Idaho State.


Oregon State won the toss and deferred. Ken Cornist returns the kickoff 12 yards to the ISU24. Despite two completed passes and one rush for positive yardage, the Beaver defense forces three and out. Dan Zeidman punts the ball 31 yards out of bounds at 13:30.

Sean Canfield hooks up with Anthony Brown on a 41 yard pass down to the ISU41. A 16-yard completion to Brown gives the offense first and goal from the three. Yvenson Bernard barrels his way for OSU's first touchdown of the game at 12:13

Oregon State 7, Idaho State 0

JD Ponciano returns the kickoff 20 yards to the OSU23. After picking up a first down a fumble on second down results in third and 18. Zeidman punts the ball into the endzone for a touchback.

Canfield completes four straight passes, each to a different receiver, as he finds Sammie Stroughter streaking down the field for a 48-yard touchdown, Stroughters first of the year.

Oregon State 14, Idaho State 0

At 5:37 Idaho State picks up a first down on three straight completions before two incomplete passes force Zeidman's third punt of the game which goes out of bounds at the OSU37.

The Canfield to Strougther connection continues to function as they hook up for gains of 24, 11,14 and 13 before fullback Andy Stewart forces his way into the endzone for his first career touchdown. Stroughter accounted for 62 of the teams 63 yards this drive.

Oregon State 21, Idaho State 0

Back to back sacks by Slade Norris and Victor Butler end the first quarter. Despite holding the ball four minutes longer, Idaho State has no points.



An incomplete pass on 3rd and 36 results in the Bengals fourth consecutive punt. Stroughter returns the punt six yards to the OSU33.

Two rushes and one incomplete pass results in the first OSU punt of the game. Serna gets off the best punt of his career, a 43 yard boot that is returned by Eddie Thompson to the ISU26.

Idaho State picks up another first down and is still trying to get the running game going but the Beavers are having none of it. Another punt by Zeidman, Stroughter returns it to the OSU18.

The offense picks up four first downs as Canfield fins Stroughter for gains of 25 and 14. Bernard rips off his longest run of the game, an 11-yarder. The drive culminates in a 8-yard touchdown pass to Brown on third and six from the ISU8.

Oregon State 28, Idaho State 0

At 7:07, ISU takes over at their own 28 following the kickoff. For the first time in the game, Idaho State picks up two first downs in one series, including a nifty 35-yard catch and run by Eddie Thompson who alludes several Beaver defenders. But, Keenan Lewis picks off Russel Hill's pass in the endzone and returns in 16-yards to the OSU16.

After hooking up Brown for a 16-yard gain on first down, the offensive line yields a sack and Serna punts for the second time.

Hill hooks up with Thompson for gains of 15, 7, 20, and 11 to bring the ISU offense to the OSU9. Branden Jones kicks a 26-yard field goal as time runs out.

Oregon State 28, Idaho State 3



Howard Croom returns the second half kickoff to the OSU39. Canfield and Brown hook up for a 27-yard gain and a first down. Stroughter drops a perfect pass on third and seven that would have resulted in a first down. Serna punts the ball 36 and is downed on the ISU1 by Patrick Fuller.

Clint Knickrehm almost gets caught on the first play for a safety before Derrick Doggett brings down Ken Cornist in the endzone for a safety.

Oregon State 30, Idaho State 3

Canfield finds Brown for gains of 16 and 18. Stroughter takes a quick hitter 7-yards and stretches across the goal line for his second touchdown.

Oregon State 37, Idaho State 3

At 9:58, ISU takes the field and the defense forces a three and out. A 64-yard punt by Zeidman results in a touchback.

Lyle Moevao enters the game and is promptly sacked on his first play. Sieverson misses his block. Moevao and the offense convert on third down three times, including two completions to James Rodgers, one for 14 yards and the other for 25. Justin Kahut kicks connects on his first career field goal from 38 yards out.

Oregon State 40, Idaho State 3

Kahut handles the kickoff with Kenyon Blue returning the ball to the ISU29. After back to back first downs, Greg Laybourn steps in front of a receiver for an interception, the first of his career, at the ISU48.

At 2:12 the offense goes 48 yards in four plays highlighted by a 37-yard touchdown run by Clinton Polk. Polk puts a nice stiff arm on a guy to spring him free.

Oregon State 47, Idaho State 3

A run and pass by ISU runs out the clock. The Beavers held the ball for 10:25 in the third.



Hill finds Josh Barnett on a wheel route out of the backfield for a 47-yard touchdown at 14:05.

Oregon State 47, Idaho State 10

Moevao once again moves the offense down the field. Rodgers had an exciting 35-yard run on an end around, a great block by Darrell Catchings to spring him free. Rodgers also makes a difficult grab on a deflected to pass to make it first and goal from the ISU1. Curtis Coker enters at fullback and fumbles the ball with ISU recovering on the two yard line.

Three plays later Gerard Lawson reads an out route, steps in front of the receiver, intercepts the ball and barrels his way 18-yards for a touchdown.

Oregon State 54, Idaho State 10

When it rains, it pours. Bryant Cornell deflects a pass and Casey Noack intercepts the ball returning it to the ISU18.

The offense keeps in the ground as only one pass play is called. Patrick Fuller takes it in from three yards out and third and goal for the game's final points.

Oregon State 61, Idaho State 10

Idaho State also keeps in the ground picking up one first down before punting. A fumbled snap kills the drive at 2:25.

Ryan Gunderson enters the game, but Fuller receivers four carries as the Beavers run out the clock.
