Oregon State and Arizona State met...
Nov. 4, 2006 in Corvallis - Oregon State 44, Arizona State 10
The Oregon State offense, led by the smart play of QB Matt Moore and the tough running of RB Yvenson Bernard scored 17 unanswered points to start the game cruising to a 44-10 victory over Arizona State for OSU's fourth straight conference win. The 34-point margin of victory is the most ever against ASU.
Moore finished 17 of 31 for 282 yards and one touchdown, but it was his running that stole the show rushing five times for a career best 44 yards. QB Sammie Stroughter led the Beavers with five catches for 95 yards.
ASU QB Rudy Carpenter had the worst game of his career completing just 9 of 27 for 124 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions.
Arizona State played...
Sept. 15, 2007 - Arizona State 37, San Diego State 13
ASU’s 34-13 win over San Diego State maybe doesn’t classify as an ugly win, but the final stat sheet isn’t a thing of beauty either. Nonetheless, one quick look around the conference scoreboard from this weekend should make the maroon and gold feel good about the fact that they are entering Pac-10 play with a 3-0 record ... more from the DevilsDigest.com.

history. (ASU leads 23-9-1, 17-3 in Tempe).
The Sun Devils and Beavers have met 33 times since 1961 with ASU holding a 23-9-1 advantage with the teams spliting the last four contests.
OSU has actually won only eight games in the series as Arizona State was forced to forfeit a 45-0 win in 1979. Without the forfeit, the Beavers have only defeated ASU three times since 1971 after after winning five of the first six meetings.
OSU has a one game winning streak and has a chance to defeat ASU back to back for the first time since the 1969 and 1971 seasons. The last time OSU won in Tempe was a 30-7 victory in 1969, before ASU was a member of the Pac-10. OSU has never won in Tempe since ASU joined the Pac-10.
ASU has a 15 game winning streak at home against Oregon State. This is the fourth time in five years that OSU meets ASU in its conferenc opener.
The Sun Devils are 3-4 in Pac-10 openers since 2000, but have won their opener in two of the past three seasons. Last year ASU dropped the conference opener at Cal, 49-21.
Oregon State is 1-6 in confrerence openers since 2000. They have never won a conference opener under Mike Riley. Last year OSU lost the Pac-10 opener at home against #20 Cal, 41-13. The last time the Beavers won a conference opener on the road was in 1971 when the Beavers beat UCLA 34-17.
ASU head coach Dennis Erickson spent four seasons as the head coach at Oregon State, leading the Beavers to three bowls, including the 2001 Fiesta Bowl. He went 31-17 at Oregon State and his .646 winning percentage is the highest in modern OSU football history. In addition to Coach Erickson, Craig Bray, Jamie Christian, Dan Cozzetto, Matt Lubick, Al Simmons, Gregg Smith and Eric Yarber have all coached for the Beavers at some point in their careers.
ASU has two players from Oregon on its roster - LB Garrett Judah played his high school football at Sunset High (Beaverton, OR) while DT Bo Moos played at Sheldon High (Eugene, OR). ASU safety Jeremy Payton is the brother of Oregon State free safety Bryan Payton.
Oregon State has two players from Arizona on its roster - DT Mitchell Hunt played high school football at Corono Del Sol (Chandler, AZ) and LB Keaton Kristick at St. Mary's (Fountain Hills, AZ)
Twelve players on the OSU roster were recruited by Erickson. The list includes Yvenson Bernard, Anthony Brown, Curtis Coker, Kyle DeVan, Naymon Frank, Ryan Gunderson, Jeff Kruskamp, Gerard Lawson, Clinton Polk, Brandon Powers, Roy Scheuning and Jeff Van Orsow.
around the radio.
The Pac-10 Conference has three television “windows” for Sept. 22 -- 3 p.m. Versus (Arizona at Cal); 5 p.m. ABC (WSU at USC) and 7:15 p.m. FSN (UW at UCLA). Those games were selected for the most part Sept. 10 or earlier. The only option for an “institutional” broadcast (FSN NW) would be to kickoff at 12:45 p.m. or earlier or after 10 p.m. The 12:45 option is not an attractive one considering the expected high for that day in the local area is 100 degrees -- ASU has the option. The Pac-10 contracts also restrict a visual feed -- thus no availability on osubeavers.com or even a closed circuit broadcast (Reser Stadium or CH2M Hill Alumni Center for example).
by Devils and Beavs.
If statistics from the first three games mean anything, don’t expect a shootout Saturday night. Arizona State enters the fray first in the Pac-10 (T9th in NCAA) for scoring defense allowing 10.0 points per game, while OSU is second (T22) at 17.0. The two teams also rank first and second respectively in the league for total defense, ASU allowing 214.0 (6th) and OSU at 253.3 (13th).
The Beavers also lead the conference and are second in the nation for rush defense allowing 27.7 yards -- Penn State leads at 17.7. OSU has held its first two FBS teams to under their season average for total off. -- Utah 196 (avg. 227.3) and Cincinnati 229 (avg. 427.3).
ASU hasn’t allowed a touchdown in the fourth quarter this season, and only Idaho State (7 pts) has managed to find the endzone in the last stanza against the Beavers.
The Devil defensive unit has allowed just two TDs in first three games. ASU defense has not allowed a second-half TD this year and have allowed no fourth-quarter points at all. The ASU defense has picked off at least one pass in every game this year.

has been successful of late on the road overall posting an 8-4 record over
the last three seasons. Only USC (10-2) has more away game victories in that

100 = W.
When RB Yvenson Bernard runs for 100 yards or more, the Beavers are almost guaranteed a victory. The last seven times Bernard has topped the 100 yard mark OSU has put another "W" in the win column. Here are some other facts about Bernard:
- Has a chance
chance to be the seventh player in Pac-10 history to post three 1,000-yard
- Is currently
the conference’s active leading rusher with 2,897 yards
- Has rushed for
100-plus yards in 13 of the last 234 games.
- Has at least
one rushing TD in 11 of the last 17 games and has two touchdowns in one game
10 times, rushed for 24 touchdowns in last 23 games

at Arizona State in December, but declined.
- QB Sean Canfield
was nominated for Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Week.
- Mike Riley is
the fifth-winningest coach in OSU history with 32 victories -- passing Dennis
Erickson in last week’s win. The two coaches have combined to lead OSU
to six bowl games (Riley 3-0; Erickson 1-2) starting with the 1999 season.

prior to Erickson being named head coach of the Beavers. His Idaho team fell

averaging 34 minutes exactly. The Beavers are third in the league and 25th
in the country at 31:53.
- Oregon State’s
depth chart on defense might be among the deepest in the nation. The Beavers
routinely play 10 defensive linemen, eight linebackers and nine defensive
backs. That depth has resulted in 12 players recording tackles-for-loss and
eight individuals with sacks.
- Senior defensive
end Slade Norris has battled injuries and is playing his third position --
he appears to have found a home at rush end. He’s the Pac-10 leader
and ranks tied for sixth in the NCAA with 3.5 quarterback sacks accounting
for the second-highest figure in the country for lost yards with 36.
- Of the 27 games
involving Pac-10 teams so far this season, the home team has won 20 times,
the visitors just seven.
- The Sun Devils
showcase one of the most experienced and honored offensive lines in the Pac-10,
as ASU boasts the only unit of linemen in the conference which returns all
fi ve starters from the conclusion of the 2006 season. Also, ASU returns three
offensive linemen that received All-Pac-10 honors in 2006, trailing only Oregon
State for most in the conference and fi ve Sun Devil linemen, including four
starters, have already earned their undergraduate degree.
- Only four teams
in the nation return a running back unit that consisted of a 1,000 yard rusher
and a 500 yard rusher last season, including ASU's Ryan Torain and Keegan Herring. Torain and Herring combined for 1,778 rushing yards in 2006. Arkansas,
Clemson and Western Michigan are the others.
- ASU's team captarins
are Josh Barrett, Michael Marquardt, Mike Pollak and Ryan Torain. OSU's are
Yvenson Bernard, Alan Darlin, Jeff Van Orsow, Derrick Doggett and Sammie Stroughter.
