California won the toss and chose to receive. Lavelle Hawkins returns the opening kickoff 24 yards to the CAL24. On the first offensive play of the game Justin Forsett goes up the middle for a 45 yard gain to the OSU31. The Beaver defense stiffens up as Dorian Smith sacks Kevin Riley on second down to stall the drive. Jordan Kay misses a 49-yard field goal attempt wide left.
On the Beavers opening offensive play of the game Sean Canfield finds Darrell Catchings across the middle for a 26-yard gain and an OSU first down. Two rushes for 12 yards by Yvenson Bernard results in another first down pushing the ball to the CAL31. On 2nd and 10 Canfield completes another pass to Catchings in the middle of the field for a first down, but Catchings fumbles as Zack Follett recovers the ball on the CAL14.
California goes into the shotgun formation. Two rushes for just two yards and an incomplete pass result in a punt. Andrew Larson punts the ball 64 yards to the OSU20.
OSU takes the ball over with 9:36. Beavers gain nine yards, a two yard run and 7-yard catch by Bernard, but have to punt on 4th and 1. Alexis Serna punts 39 yards to the CAL32 where the ball is fair caught by DeSean Jackson.
James Rodgers takes the end around 17 yards on first down to the OSU44, but a holding penalty on 2nd and 6 stalls the drive. On 4th and 8 Serna punts 40 yards to the CAL14 with 4:56 on the clock.
On first down Alan Darlin strips and recovers the ball from Forsett on the CAL16.
A pass interference penalty on 2nd and 14 gives the Beavers first and goal on the CAL5. On 4th and goal on the one Andy Stewart plunges in for his second touchdown of the year to give the Beavers the lead with 2:05 left in the first.

Forsett rushes for 5 yards on 2nd and 4 to give Cal a first down as they run out the clock to the first quarter.
Continued from first quarter...California begins their drive at their own 23 and pick up three first downs. Hawkins catches three passes for 53 yards on the drive including a 35-yard gain on 3rd and 1 and a 10-yard catch for the touchdown.
Oregon State 7, California 7
Gerard Lawson returns the kickoff 25 yards to the OSU33. The offense picks up two first downs, one on an 8-yard pass to Brady Camp and another on a 8 yard run by Bernard, to move the ball to the CAL43. Three straight incomplete passes force 4th and 10. Serna punts the ball 43 yards for a touchback.
Chris Johnson picks up a first down on 2nd and 2 after an 8-yard reception to Bernard on first down. Back to back incomplete passes result in another punt. Serna punts 47 yards to the CAL29. Jackson returns the ball 12 yards to the CAL41.
After picking a first down Derrick Doggett grabs Robert Jordan in the backfield for a three yard loss resulting in 3rd and 9. Riley is hit as he is throwing popping the ball up in the air. Victor Butler grabs the ball and rumbles 30-yards to the CAL17.
Rodgers picks up another first down, this time on a 16-yard reverse to give the Beavers 1st and goal. The Cal defense stiffens up denying Bernard and then Stewart the endzone. On fourth down Serna connects on a 22-yard field goal.

Hawkins returns the ball 2 yards to the CAL4 on great coverage by the kickoff team. California puts together one of their better drives of the game going on an 11 play, 87-yard touchdown drive while picking up five first downs and converting on third down twice. Riley snakes into the endzone on first and goal from three yards out. A heavy dose of Forsett stabled the drive as he accounted for 38 yards on six carries.
California 14, Oregon State 10
A pooch punt by Larson gives OSU the ball at the OSU42. Canfield connects with Powers on first down for a 17-yard gain. An 11-yard pass to Bernard on 3rd and 15 moves the ball to the CAL35. Serna nails a 52-yard attempt with one second on the clock.

Hawkins returns the kickoff 14 yards to the CAL30 to end the first half.
Lawson returns the opening second half kick 20 yards to the OSU24. The Beavers open up the second half with an superb 12 play, 76 yard drive that took up 5:45. OSU converts on third down twice, their first third down conversions of the game. A 22-yard completion to Rodgers on 3rd and 15 is a highlight along with the steady running of Bernard who accounted for 59 yards including four straight rushing plays, which included a 21-yard run and the one yard dive over the top on 2nd and goal.
Oregon State 20, California 14
California answers with a great drive of their own taking the ball 77 yards in 15 plays while converting on third down twice getting to the OSU1 with first and goal. But the Beaver defense stops Forsett four straight times as the Bears turn the ball over on downs.
On 3rd and 5 Gabe Miller drops a pass that would have resulted in a first down. Serna punts the ball 23 yards to the OSU26.
Riley is sacked by Jeff Van Orsow to end the third quarter.
On 2nd and 16 Riley finds Hawkins for an 18-yard gain moving the ball to the OSU7. Forsett finds his way into the endzone to give Cal the lead.
California 21, Oregon State 20
Lawson returns the kickoff 39 yards to the OSU45. A 26-yard pass to Anthony Brown highlights the drive as OSU picks up three first downs and converts on third down twice. OSU has 2nd and goal from the CAL1. Bernard is denied two times to force 4th and 1. OSU goes for it as Bernard sneaks in over right tackle. Canfield hits Brown in the back of the endzone for the two point conversion with 8:30 remaining.
Oregon State 28, California 21
With the ball on the CAL39 OSU picks up a first down on a personal foul. Beavers want to keep the clock moving as Bernard rushes three times for seven yards. Serna hits a 33-yard field goal.
Oregon State 31, California 21
Riley throws three straight incomplete passes. Larson punts the ball 47-yards to the OSU32.
Beavs keep it on the ground as Bernard rushes three times for eight yards. Serna punts 40-yards to the CAL20 with 3:26 left in the game.
Cal mixes in the run and pass nicely moving 79 yards in five plays, highlighted by a 64-yard touchdown to Hawkins on a slant across the middle for a touchdown.
Oregon State 28, California 28
Cal tries the onside kick but the ball is recovered by Johnson on the CAL45. Beavs keep it on the ground running three times. Serna gets off a great 36 yard punt that is downed on the CAL6.
Hawkins once again kills the Beavers catching an 18 yard and 19 yard pass for first downs. The real killer was the 19-yard pass on 4th and 17 where Greg Laybourn missed a tackle that would have ended the game. A pass interference call on Tim Clark gives Cal first and 10 from the OSU12. California has no timeouts, Riley scrambles around before he is tackled by Joey LaRocque. The field goal unit rushes onto the field, but there is not enough time on the clock and the Beavers win!
