SoCal DB Still Waiting For 1st Offer

Kevin Ross, 5-10, 165 pound defensive back from Playa Del Rey (Calif.) St. Bernard's is a talented safety prospect who is still waiting for that elusive first scholarship offer. He likes one Pac-10 school a lot. Is that school located in the Northwest?

"I think once that first one comes in, other schools will follow," Kevin Ross Sr., Kevin's father said. "I know a lot of times schools kind of mirror each other and we're hopeful that's what will happen." Ross was a 2nd team All-State Underclass selection last year after totaling 67 tackles and six interceptions, including two for touchdowns.

"He's doing really well right now," Ross Sr. said. "He's been training hard and has his 40 time down in the 4.5 range and has put on a good 10 pounds of muscle. He's hitting harder and looks like a different player on the field."

Ross has made no secret for his love of USC and would like nothing more than to play for the Trojans.

"They write and call all the time and have invited him to all the games," Ross said. "They have basically done everything but offer. They told us they like Kevin a lot and not to make any other commitments without telling them first.

"I think they want to see Kevin's first couple of games this year before making a decision. The only safety I heard they offered was (Freddie) Parish and he's committed to Notre Dame so hopefully that will open the door for Kevin."

Another huge benefit for the team that lands Ross is it will give them a huge foot in the door for Junior standout quarterback Rocky Hinds.

"Kevin and Rocky are like brothers," Ross said. "Wherever Kevin goes, that's where Rocky will go. They've been playing together since Pop Warner and have talked forever about playing together in college. We don't want a school to offer Kevin just for Rocky but like I said, wherever Kevin goes, I almost guarantee Rocky will follow."

In addition to USC, Oregon and Cal have also called and Oregon State and Washington are showing attention as well.
