BREAKING: Walker talks about his decision

FOR THE LAST several weeks, Kevan Walker has been deciding between Oregon State and UCLA. The 6-0, 186-pounder has been a verbal commitment of UCLA since August. His father DeWayne is the Bruins' defensive coordinator. But an Oregon State visit in January further clouded the picture. Now, Walker says everything is crystal clear and he's made his college decision.

Walker will ink his Letter of Intent to OSU on Wednesday.

"These past few weeks have been really hectic...but I felt like it was the best place for me and tomorrow I'll be signing with Oregon State," said Walker. "It's not a knock on UCLA at all, I love everything about UCLA."

Walker said in the end, his official visit to Corvallis played a huge role.

"I just felt when I got up to Oregon State that ultimate team chemistry and that vibe up there. UCLA obviously has great people there and coach (Rick) Neuheisel and I loved it up there. But when I got to Oregon State I just felt like I fit in there right away."

Walker also said he formed a tight bond with the Beaver coaching staff.

"In talking to coach (Mike) Riley and coach (Lee) Hull, they felt it was the perfect place for me and I felt the same way."

MANY OBSERVERS thought the elder Walker being the Bruins' defensive coordinator would ultimately mean the son would also come to Westwood but Kevan said that was low on the list of deciding factors.

"He was actually saying Oregon State would probably be a good fit for me too...and in this situation, he's my father. And when I look at UCLA, he's a coach. It was basically just a decision where I felt the comfort and everything I felt up there was the right fit," said Walker.

Walker had an outstanding senior season for Arcadia, playing both quarterback and wide receiver.

He completed 76 of 141 passes for 1,063 yards, 12 touchdowns and five interceptions. His quarterback rating was 92.0, and he also caught eight receptions for 109 yards. He'll be coming into Oregon State as a receiver.
