Clifton Smith Likes the Beavers

In a year of outstanding cover corners on the West Coast, Clifton Smith, 5-8, 170 pounds from Fresno (Calif.) Edison takes a back seat to no one. Here's the latest.

Smith was a 1st team All-State Underclass selection a year ago and also earned Student Sports Junior All-American honors. He has great cover skills and is a play maker on both sides of the ball.

Scholarship offers have come in from Oregon State, Fresno State, Washington State and Arizona State and Smith is interested in all four right now.

"Miami is probably my favorite school, I've always loved the Canes," Smith said. "I'm not hearing from them at all though so of the schools who have offered, I like Oregon State, Fresno State, Arizona State and Washington State probably in that order."

Smith has good bloodlines as his uncle is former USC and San Francisco 49er star Tim McDonald who also attended Edison. In fact, the school has been producing quality defensive backs for the past few years.

"Ricky Manning got it going and then last year, Aaron (Miller) kept up the tradition very well," Edison head coach Ray Reyes said. "Clifton is as good as anyone we've had. We also have Lorenzo Sims who is getting heavily recruited so we've had some good ones."
